Speaking of side effects...

Tuesday, June 12, 2012

Ron just came in with the medications the doctor ordered for my nausea. He doesn't want me to keep on with the ginger as he feels it may be irritating the stomach more.

So I have two new drugs he wants me to take. One interferes with Dopamine and can cause a syndrome that is permanent that is very like Parkinson's Disease, which my mother died with. The other interferes with Seratonin, affects heart rhythm, is linked to sudden death syndromes, and I probably can't take that with the SAM-e which I need for the pain, anyway. Plus it causes things like headaches, which was one of my complaints, as gastritis headaches are horrible. I am not about to go off the SAM-e. It's one of the few things that actually helps me.

Needless to say, I am discouraged and upset and not losing any weight as good as I have been for weeks on eating and trying to control allergies, as well as trying to exercise when I can.

Wow, what you're saying in this blog is sort of what I was trying to say in my reply to your last blog. We do have to be our own health advocate and do our research as Dr's today just don't seem or take the time to even diagnosis our health problems and heaven forbid if we're finally diagnosed which RX should they push upon us? Be well very soon as I miss you dear friend.

    Love,

Sue, you know your body--you do what you have to do. If the Sam=e is working, then keep on it. I admire you, hon, because through all of this, you still find time to take of the kids. Where do you get the strength? It must be coming from all of our prayers that we say for you--so I guess we'll continue :) Love and Hugs!! Noel

Isn't it awful when the side effects make you wonder if a drug is worth it? My sis, post breast cancer has had to deal with some of those trade-offs: drug prevents recurrence of cancer, but causes arthritis like symptoms, and she ended up with carpal tunnel!

Is there a way to win at this? My mom used to say that getting older is not for sissies!

Do you have an herbalist healer around you at all, Sue??? Sometimes chiropractors dabble a little in that. Just a thought!

    HUGS!!!
