I had a couple of errands to run at lunch today. At one point, I was in my car looking through my pocketbook for something, and I kept pulling all these pieces of paper out that I didn't need. I usually keep a plastic bag from the grocery store in my van to use when I get the urge to do a little clean out of my travelling junk drawer (that space between the two front seats. So once I pulled out the bag and put that trash from my pocketbook, I decided well, I guess this is as good a time as any to go through this pile of stuff..and I begin to. As I get towards the bottom of the pile, I find a plastic bag filled with New England Patriot M & M's that a friend of mine gave me right before the Super Bowl back in February. I put them into the abyss that is the area between those seats and completely and totally forgot about them..

The good news is that they were still there, that I hadn't eaten them! I had actually forgotten they were there! Anyone who knows of my "M&M habit" knows how very good that is!!

However, once I realized they were there, they HAUNTED me! Now, I ate my lunch before I left the office, a nice salad with sliced grilled chicken breast and lite Ken's balsamic dressing, a delicious leftover piece of corn on the cob from dinner the other night, and a yoplait light yogurt. I absolutely, positively, was not hungry. But once I saw those M&M's, I WANTED them, and my stomach started to rumble.

So how in the world am I supposed to "read my hunger cues" when the mere sight of that candy made my stomach growl?? Very interesting reaction...

And I did not eat them. Instead, I was going into the dollar store to get a bag for a birthday gift, and I bought a pack of gum and am now sitting here, chewing the $&!) out of the gum, but I didn't eat the M&M's!

Interesting, don't you think??

I am the same way Tina. The fact that there was leftover cake and even worse leftover frosting in my fridge last night almost sent me over the edge. I did have a spoonful of frosting, but after that I threw EVERYTHING out. It was so gratifying to know it was in the garbage when I started to daydream about it at 6am this morning. One less battle for the day!

It is interesting how our minds work when it comes to being satisfied from a meal, yet any snack like M&Ms can make us still feel hungry. I go through this too.

Did you through the temptation away? Like MusicMom said, they would be old and well...

Wouldn't the M&M's be a little bit melted anyway? Look at it that way, they're old! Way to go on resisting!!
