The Simple Diet Journal #25 -- Meeting the High School Me plus A Few Fun & Funny Moments
Tuesday, June 05, 2012
I am now the weight I used to be in High School. And, while I’m aiming to lose more and be at the weight I was in college – it’s really a special experience to, in a sense, meet myself again. I wish the High School girl could have seen herself with the eyes I have now – but, I guess that’s all part of that well-used expression: wisdom comes with age.
And, on this theme of meeting the person I used to be – that’s what it’s now like for my kids as well. Recently, it came to mind that my kids have never known me like this – fit and slimmer. That was an eye opener thought for me a few weeks ago. It’s caused me to be even more thankful that my goals and dreams for 2012 are actually happening and that my kids can see their mom having goals and reaching them through hard work, dedication, and fun (some parts of the weight loss journey have actually been fun – never thought I’d find myself saying that!)
Speaking of fun – here are some of my new fun and funny aspects of having lost weight . . .
One of my favorite new, super Fun thing to do for exercise: Hooping!!!! Absolutely love it. And, since getting a big hoop – that has made all the difference. I’m still such a newbie (or noob as teens these days say), but can’t tell you how much joy I get from being able to lift the hula hoop over my head into a lasso and work it back down. I’m smiling just telling you about it – makes me want to put on some music right now and dance with the hoop!
Funniest compliment: You look great . . . for what’s left of you!
Unexpected compliment: While waiting for my watch to be fixed at a nearby mall, I decided to browse and look at clothes. One of the saleswomen came up to me and said, “Do you know what department you’re in? These clothes are all too big for you. Come with me. Ah, here are your sizes. You’re probably an 8.” I nearly fell over.
Laundry Mix-ups: I can no longer immediately tell which jeans belong to my teenage son and which belong to me. Even he accidentally grabbed my jeans and started putting them on – wish you could have seen his face when he realized!
Shopping: Have there always been so many interesting clothes out there, or did I just stop paying attention? I can’t believe how many incredible looks there are. It feels a bit overwhelming and I’ve decided to wait before buying much of anything – so I’m basically living in my workout clothes and 2 pairs of jeans. Fortunately, some clothes seem to fit okay no matter how much weight I lose.
Here’s to more fun and fit days!
As my favorite spin instructor likes to say while pushing us to increase resistance and go really fast:
“Don’t quit now. You can do it. You’re stronger than you think you are.”
Smiles for you . . .
