Just watched Hairspray and feeling a bit sad about it

Hairspray is a wonderful musical film ( adapted from a play) set in per-integrated 1960 Baltimore. The main character is a chubby highs cool student who wants to dance on the teen tv show, has a crush on the cute boy dancer (Zac Ephron) and wants a world where everyone can be proud to be themselves no matter the color of their skin or their size ( John Travolta plays her "size 60" mom who does not want to leave her house at her size).
The movie made me happy that the world has changed since 1960. I am pleased that we have grown toward a place where people can be people not blacks or whites. Things may not always be 100% but the progress has been massive. What hasn't changed is that "fat" people are still ridiculed and excluded. Why are 99.9% of the images we see on tv and in the movies of stick thin people! I want to see more size diversity.
