Getting ready for the big trip!
Saturday, June 02, 2012
Well, I've got my new undies, and I'm almost ready to go! Today, I tried on a bunch of winter-y clothes for the trip. It was a lot of fun - many things that used to be too tight fit wonderfully well, and I had a lot of choices. I made my selections (I'm taking about 8 outfits for the whole month because we'll have washing machines in our apartments) and now I'm almost ready!
I have already packed my favorite sports bra and workout shorts, along with a resistance band. We are copying some of my favorite workout videos on to a laptop that we'll bring, and I plan to do some kickboxing in the UK. I know it will be hard to maintain on a trip this long, but I'm very motivated.
I figure, if I allow myself one "indulgy" meal a day, I'll be ok. What do you guys think? I can be very good at 2/3 of the meals, and given the amount of walking we'll be doing, and the fact that I won't have a ton of snackfoods at my disposal, I think one meal a day where I don't sweat it would be ok. I'll try also to follow the rule of never finishing the entire serving, since restaurant servings tend to be so big. We'll have kitchens in all three apartments, so I can bring food home and save it for another meal. Alternatively, I can give my leftovers to my husband, the "food camel." I don't know how that guy isn't overweight... lucky devil!
Anyway, everything is going well except for the fact that my younger daughter has gone loopy. I asked her to find her rain poncho, and she couldn't, because her room was a mess. She's decided that she needs to completely overhaul her room, which means all of her cast-offs are now in my office. The house was so clean!!! Not anymore. I hate that her decision to do work turns into my having more work to do, right in the middle of packing. Heck, our house-sitter will likely only be hanging out downstairs, so I may not even pick it up until we get home!
One more exciting note: today I had a lot of errands to do to pick up little things for the trip. I don't know what possessed me (well, really I do, it is you sparkfriends of mine...) but I pulled out my long neglected bike and biked it to three stores instead of driving. It was a lovely ride, and I felt awesome afterward! My bike is so nice, I feel terrible for having abandoned it for so long. It was good to be back in the bike seat!
