Expect the Unexpected

Saturday, June 02, 2012

While I was at my parents I at least blogged my daily challenge positive trait, once I was back home I got so caught up in other things...I literally forgot. Those last days kinda...well, I half fell off the wagon (once again). We BBQed and while I ate 3 very healthy Tofu Spears, I also ate potato and noodle salad...I didn't want to, but the BBQ took longer than expected and my willpower just wandered away. I only took a spoonful, but went back several times for another one. I chose healthy at least half of the time, if it wasn't for the darn chocolate.

Anyway, I don't want to bring me down and I don't want to only mention the negative things. On the bright side:

I learned a lot about Clean Eating those last days (if you are interested check out thegraciouspantry.com) and also went shopping for some of the things needed. I won't be able to make a clean (hah word game) cut right away, mentally and also financially, but I am incorporating principles of the Clean Eating slowly but surely.

Here you can see my new breakfast, from left to right, top to bottom...sesame, instant oats, Wheat bran, multi oats, flax seeds, flax seed shredded, wheat germs, apple sauce.

Right now, I have Clean Eating Granola Bars in the oven, we will see how they turned out. I took a recipe from a German website and substituted apple sauce for oil. Which brings me to my Homemade Unsweetened Apple Sauce that I cooked today (can I say YUMMY?). The Recipe is from Food.com and is just great. We will see how the bars will turn out. I hope as amazing as the apple sauce.

So, positive today is: I did not give up, usually, when I fall of the wagon, I give up and binge eat for weeks and weeks, this time it took me 2 days to come to my senses and in those two days, while I ate chocolate and not completely healthy, I didn't fall off completely and educated myself on eating better.

And now, I will go back and work on my vision collage, actually, I just took a photo so I could share it with you:

And in the meantime my granola bars where ready as well, they taste yummy, but I learned several things: I spread them out too thin, they crumble a bit. Apple sauce is great instead of oil. I could have maybe left them in there a tad longer. Choc chips and fruits are not needed, yummy indeed.

That's it from me today :)

    For the bars I used:
    1/2 cup apple sauce
    1 cup honey
    1 tbsp cinnamon

    heat that up

    then I mixed

    4 cups multi oats
    1 cup sunflower seeds
    1 cup walnuts
    1/4 cups sesame
    1 tbsp flax seed

and mixed that with the heated mixture, spread on a baking sheet and baked for an hour at 110 degrees celcius. Could have used 120 maybe. Let cool and cut in bars, it can crumble it was my first try, but delicious.
You can add pretty much everything to the bars..coconut flakes, dried fruits
