UpDate On My Dad

Friday, June 01, 2012

As some of you know, this past week and a half has been a difficult, stressful time for me. My brother, I use this term losely, has been refusing to take proper care of my dad. A couple of months ago he had my dad's checking account so messed up that my dad had no money to live on so my DH and I got my dad all caught up and my dad took my brother off of his account and put my sister on all his accounts. I live in TN and my dad lives in FL, so it is not like I can run back and forth every day to help out. My sister and her daughter have been doing an awesome job! He went to the dr yesterday and he said my dad was having problems because his right foot was swollen, which we knew, and he put him on different meds to help take care of that. This way he is capable of getting up and doing the things he needs to do. He is also setting him up for some PT to help strengthen his legs and arms again. Other than that, he is in great shape for someone who will be 83 in 2 months. So now that I know he has been taken care of, I can rest a little easier and get back on track with all of my sparking, which I have been neglecting.

On the bright side, I had to go to the dr yesterday and she has not seen me since April 3rd and she was very impressed with my weight loss and the amount of inches I have lost. She said she really noticed a difference in me. That made me feel really good. I go back on the 26th of this month to have all my blood work done to see if there are any imporvements in certain areas. She said she was very optimistic about the results of those tests. I am hoping to have a little more weight off my then. I have almost reached 25 lbs lost and I am aiming for that or a little more would be nice when I see her again.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and I really do appreciate all of the kind words and thoughts and prayers from everyone on my last blog concerning my dad. I love emoticon and all of my wonderful emoticon!

So glad your Dad is doing better; it can be so stressful when you are trying to manage the care of parents from a distance (been there, done that).

Good for you for your weight loss!

Sue, I have been off-line a few days while out of town and so glad that things are improving with your dad. I was so blessed with my siblings helping out with daddy. For once, everyone worked together and covered for each other when other appointments/obligations cropped up. We all lived within 30 minutes of daddy so that helped too. Praying that things keep improving. (((HUGS)))

Thanks for the update. I do feel for you and your family. My parents came to live with me from Florida when my dad was 84. It is sad to see the adults in your life decline and to really realize that you are the adult now for both ends.
You are doing great with your journey too! emoticon emoticon

So relieved to know that your sister and niece have been able to step in, and help take care of your dad, which must be relieving for yourself, too! I helped care for my father before his death(6 yrs long) and had the boys step in wanting to care for finances, too. Maybe it's just a son-thing?!
I will be praying for you daily and wishing well on everyone involved! As far as your weight loss: great job!! I remember what it was like when people really started making those same comments. Just amazing! And you are amazing, too!!

When we're going through rough patches, it sure is nice to be reminded that there is good along with the bad. It's so great that your sister and her daughter have stepped in so well. That's got to be a huge load off your mind. That, along with your good doctor visit have given you one of those days that's a "diamond." Glad to hear your update!

Congrats on getting Dad's affairs better situated. The males always seem to come out of the woodwork when a parents health is declining and attack the assets.

Way to go on that weight loss! Keep up the good work! Proud of you!
