We’re excited to announce these new upgrades to our FREE SparkPeople iPhone app:

Offline Tracking: You can now track your foods, fitness, weight and water whether or not you have an internet connection on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Any tracking information you enter while offline will be synced to your account automatically once you are connected again and will be available to view on the website.

Updated Retina Display: We have also updated our graphics to support retina displays. What does that mean, exactly? Well, seeing is believing! The new retina display allows you to see all the functions of this free app more clearly--whether you are looking at text or graphics.

Click here to download these updates now for your iPhone!

I purchased the $3.99 app for my phone, then yesterday got a new phone and had to purchase the app again. It worked fine last night. Today I decided to get the app for my new iPad and again had to purchase the app. It crashes immediately when it opens and now the app on my new phone also won't work.

So far I have spent about $12 and the app won't work on either my phone (iPhone 5c) or my iPad.

Is there a fix out there?

I just want to throw this out there for all you who are complaining about the app price tag. The founder of spark people has poured nearly six million dollars into the site to provide the best possible content for free. Unfortunately, the costs of running such a highly effective free service is not cheap. Things like the app, the books, the fitness tracker, and the ads are to help offset the costs of the company. They don't offset enough to where sparkpeople can function without the founder still pouring in cash. He wants a healthier america, and he's been trying to help create that. Like all companies though, it needs to be able to stand on its own two feet. Extra's and premium services cost money for that purpose. If its really a big deal, don't spend the money and use your web browser to put in the details. If you do choose to buy the app, make sure you have internet access otherwise the app won't track anything. Web based interface = internet required. Its a great app and I don't see this being a logical reason to leave spark people.

As a side note, I wonder if anyone reads this comments. Looking through them all you can tell when the app changed. When it was free all kinds of good stuff once it turned to a pay app,not good posts and people leaving the site. Very sad.

Ok, I was just checking to make sure I didn't do something wrong. I got a new iPhone and wanted to add the sparkpeople app on to it. That's when I found out a out the new price tag! Very disappointing. In addition, from what I've read here and on the App Store page, it's not very good. I know this is a business and I have taken that into consideration when trying to read articles with ads constantly popping up, but I do believe I'll have to search for a new app for tracking food and fitness. I know I can still go to the website to track for free, but I wonder how much longer that will last. I did have sparkcoach for $8 a month, but have stopped that. I realized the only reason I used it was to get the extra 25 points a day. Not a good reason to spend nearly $100 a year. You'd think that with all the sales from books, videos, other store items, and ads that SparkGuy could've let us have this one for free. Sparkpeople could offer the old style app for free and an enhanced version at a price, like many other companies. Again, very disappointed.

Womp womp, downloaded the app despite the pricetag in an effort to get the stuff from my older version of the app to sync with my account on the website. Not only did I spend $4.00 on what basically the same app, but none of my food/fitness/weight tracking from the last few months transferred over? Better tech, ya'll - huge bummer.

Also very disappointed that this app is no longer free. I probably would've paid $1.99 or so but $3.99 is WAY overpriced. So very sad...switched to Lose It! App, free. emoticon

I'm not paying 3.99 for the app for my iPhone so have switched to my fitness pal. Disappointed that I've had to change as I really enjoy the layout and features of the online sparkpeople site but when you are covered in advertisements and then trying to charge your supporters it's extremely disappointing especially when there are a number of free apps out there. Another lost member :(

VERY frustrated that the app is not free any more. I loved Spark People, but now will have to search for another tracker that provides free cellphone apps. I would not pay $3.99 for the app. Ridiculous!!!

I'm so unhappy with sparkpeople!! I had to get a new smart phone so I went to download the Sparkpeople app and discovered it is no longer free. Thanks a bunch! You've lost a member since it is too time consuming to track my food and fitness to sparkpeople online and then again on a FREE app for my phone. emoticon

I'd love to have the ability to access my saved run/walk maps using the app. It's gotta be possible if all of my food and cardio favorites are accessible on the app, right?

That is such a great update to the app. I often was frustrated because I didn't have internet on my iphone ... and, couldn't update my foods ... so this is awesome! :)

I love the iphone app- it works, serves its purpose. The only thing I'd love to see integrated into it is a way to update our status easily. :)

Considering that android is surpassing apples iphone, it would be nice to see your android apps get the same treatment as iphone.

Will there be an update allowing for the scan feature when entering food items?
    2177 days ago
I have been using the App for my iPhone for quite some time-but the last time it was updated, the syncing mode would come on even when I had internet service and it would "stick" there, and would not allow me to enter anything. I have had to go in and delete SP App 3x and reinstall it...not sure why that has been happening, but hope you are able to fix that problem. I read in another blog on SP that other people were having the same problem with theirs.
I like the APP and it's handy when I'm not near a computer to keep logging in food and fitness.

I'll have to play with it once I get it downloaded. I have my iPhone set for large font accessibility for low vision, and sometimes SparkPeople doesn't play nice with that, especially in their haste to shove all the advertising down my throat. Also, the big banner advertising the various SP iPhone apps? How do I turn that completely off? I've already downloaded every SparkPeople iPhone app that there is!!

Statistics show that now more people own an Android phone than an iPhone. It would be nice if you did more for the Android applications as well, in my opinion!

Thanks for the upgrade...cant wait to check it out...will it be automatically pushed to our Iphones or do we need to "re" download it?
