Welcome, Tyler! :)

Thursday, May 24, 2012

Tyler came on May 6! He was a week late and I was scheduled to be induced on Tuesday the 8th if he didn't come before. I REALLY didn't want to be induced so I am thankful he came on his own. The birth was beautiful. I started getting contractions about 9 a.m. Sunday morning and by noon they were pretty regular about 5.5 minutes apart and by about 1 p.m. they were getting stronger so we called the doctor and they suggested we come in. We left home about 2, and checked in at the hospital at 2:30. I got checked and was at 4 cm and on our way to the hospital the contractions began coming every 2.5-3 minutes and that continued until he was born. My original plan was to wait to get an epidural until I was 5-6 cm dilated so I could walk around and help labor progress but since the contractions were coming so closely, walking really wasn't an option because once one ended, I would barely get a few doors down and it would come again, so I ended up just getting the epidural shortly after we checked in. The next time I was checked, I was at 8 cm... then I was checked again and I was at 10+ cm and ready to go! They called the doctor in about 9 and he had me start pushing at 9:15 p.m. Tyler arrived at 9:40 p.m.!!! So, 12.5 hours of labor, only 7 hours of which was at the hospital. I had a few tears that had to be stitched but Tyler was healthy and happy!

He is breastfeeding REALLY well and the only thing we have yet to tackle is sleeping :) Last night (probably a fluke) he only got up once in the middle of the night to eat! Otherwise, he's been getting up every two hours and it is really tiring. I have lots of help from my parents and my hubby (although he went back to work this week). I am off work all May and all of June and to be honest, I don't want to go back. I am so in love with my little man.

The breastfeeding has REALLY helped the weight come off. I gained about 25 total during the pregnancy and exercised 40 of the 41 weeks I was pregnant. I am already down 23 pounds. (I was in jeans for Mother's Day - just 1 week after delivery - WOOHOO!) The nurses were convinced that the labor and delivery went so quickly and smoothly (for a first baby - apparently it was great!) because I was so active during my pregnancy. I have yet to get back to the gym. My little friend is 2.5 weeks old now, and I am hoping by 4 weeks I can get back. I am pumping as well, and so I am trying to build up a supply so I can go to the gym or pool and leave him for a bit with my parents.

The pets have all adjusted VERY well. It is a blessing in disguise Buster went deaf midway through my pregnancy because he is not phased by crying AT ALL :) The girls don't necessarily want to snuggle him but they don't shy away from him either. It is awesome!

Here's Tyler Frederick... :)

Me, 8 months pregnant...

And 2.5 weeks postpartum (ignore the jammies :) )
