Physically tired, but not bonking

Friday, May 18, 2012

Today I worked out 2 hours and 15 mins: swimming, cycling, walking. Came home, cleaned up, had lunch, then a long, luxurious nap before the kids came home from school. My muscles are tired, from my forehead to my toes! I'm impressed that my body is doing this work, for this length of time, especially. Part of me feels like I should be pushing for more speed, reach deeper. Part of me is hedging, building my endurance so i don't hurt anything: ligament, tendon, muscle, bone. Once, many years ago after a bike ride, I did bonk. I hit the wall of exhaustion to the point that I couldn't stay upright. Curled in fetal position, I couldn't even flex my fingers. I get that triathlon training will involve work, and sore. I don't want to cross over into deep pain, or impaired function. Of course the butt buster workout is waiting for me still this evening! Gluts, don't fail me now!

Sounds like you are listening to your body and using good judgment. Yet I applaud how you challenge yourself. That balance is tricky, isn't it . . .
