Mother-in-law woes

Friday, May 18, 2012

My m-I-l is visiting for a week. I think I'm going to go insane. Although I made up the spare bedroom, she is sleeping on my couch. No 5a.m. Workouts for me, because my elliptical is in the same room. She brought her new puppy that she has had for 4 months, but decided not to house-train until she came to visit us. I have come home from work twice now to dog poop on my floor. She doesn't even clean it up!!! She never asked if it would be convenient to visit, just told us when she was coming. So all my plans had to change to revolve around her, including my graduation. ARGH! I just have to vent this out! Three more days, three more days!

Is she physically handicapped and for some reason unable to access the spare bedroom? Who will take care of her dog when she is not with you? Unless there are real reasons for her to be disrupting your life and your household this way, you have every right to expect your husband to handle this. There is one more legitimate reason you may not be able to identify: sometimes old women need immediate access to a bathroom - is she closer to the facilities when she sleeps on the couch? My best friend's mother suddenly moved out of her own lovely bedroom and downstairs, to sleep on the couch, because their bathroom was downstairs. (Big, old house...) Even if she IS handicapped, she owns the dog and has to deal with its mess. Buy her a pooper scooper with a handle. This is a health issue! May God bless you all with mutual cooperation and understanding - and an early recovery for your household's own operating procedures. (I would proceed with my regular workouts, if she is in that room for no reason. If she IS handicapped, try to be patient.)

Yikes! The new puppy and dog poo are just an amazing level of m-i-l issues!!! That's a tough situation. Be strong and hold on. I don't know all the details of the situation, so all I can suggest and stay out the house as much as possible and try to keep your patience (and sanity) about you.

Best of luck! She has to leave eventually emoticon

Can you set some boundaries? Ask her to clean up the poop and show her where the cleaning supplies are? Tell DH to tell her...she's his mother! You should not have to be treated like this. Good luck. I hope you survive the week...and so does the MIL.

Whoa, so not cool your MIL is not cleaning up the dog poop. I would have a talk with her. If she is going to be your guest she must sleep in the spare bedroom and clean up HER dogs poop! I hope your husband can support you in this.
