The Simple Diet Journal #23 -- Don't Mess

Friday, May 18, 2012

I decided to title my blog today with a quote from NDHuntress. In April, she wrote that she didn't want to mess with success. I have heard that phrase -- Don't Mess with Success -- in my head scores of times and it has been so helpful to keep me focused, and to keep me moving ahead. Thank you, Huntress!

I don't know about you, but sometimes I see a different diet plan discussed in a magazine and I wonder -- hmmm, should I go more low carb or try x, y, or z? And not that any of those aren't great -- but why should I do that now when The Simple Diet has been working so well for me? Then I hear Huntress's words -- Don't Mess with Success -- and I shake my head in affirmation and stick with being simple -- and I feel so great.

Now, not that I needed more confirmation as to whether the Simple Diet works for me -- but, I have experienced a new aspect that reaffirms how well suited this diet is for me -- for my temperament and for my lifestyle.

Had a 4 day trip away last weekend and, for the first time in 15 weeks, I had to eat off my typical daily plan. I decided to shoot for staying within calorie range -- c. 11-1200 cals, eat 5 fruits and veggies, drink 8+ glasses of liquids, and workout daily.

Sitting down at the first restaurant, I remembered what SaraJean32 had written in April about transferring her entrees onto plates so that she would learn how to eyeball portion sizes. At every restaurant, I tried to picture how much would realistically be typical of my entrees at home -- and I was thankful for that idea from a month back. Thank you, SaraJean32!

Other aspects that helped keep me focused were: 1) thinking about all of you -- the various Spark Friends and all you've written about over the past few months -- Thank you, dear Spark friends!; and, 2) my commitment to the BLChallenge #19. Being part of the Ranger team and wanting to give it all I have went with me on the train and throughout the entire time during my 4 days in the city. Thank you, Rangers!

Anyway -- got back home and immediately went back on plan. It actually was effortless -- and it was so good for me to experience this aspect of the Simple Diet first hand. It makes me feel less scared of rocking it once I reach the maintenance phase -- and that's really encouraging and freeing!

Smiles for you . . .

THAT is AWESOME!!! Why fix something that isn't broken. I agree, however if it becomes broken that's when you have to fix it. I too was on the 'simple diet' type thing...and lost quite a bit...however then it become 'broken' for me. My body decided that it just wasn't going to do it anymore I think. haha So time for change. But sometimes it totally works to stay on the same...don't mess with success, that is absolutely WONDERFUL!!!

So glad that you were able to stay in control while on vacation too!!! YAY!!!

I agree......WOW! You get a big "high five" from the way you handled the restaurant
and not eating your normal foods!

Our media is filled with advice. I decided early on that I wouldn't watch
TV shows, Dr. Shows, infomericals, or read other info on websites and magazines.
(I also do not watch cooking shows or read recipes because that makes me hungry. ) They are distractions and undermine my focus and commitment. There is so much info out there that conflicts and all it did was confuse me and dilute my efforts.

I do check out The Simple Diet on facebook every day and have read thru Dr. A's blogs on his website. This has been interesting to me. We are fortunate that we are participating at the beginning of the release of this book. We have the guide and ready access to the author. I have contacted him 3 X (one post on facebook, two messages on facebook) and he has replied personally all 3X. How exciting is that! He is the nicest guy.

I agree that the SD Spark team has been tremendous! This site is awesome and this team is very special. They do come up with some great ideas, for sure,
ideas that stick with me and pop in my head at the right moment.

    Right.......don't mess with success!
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

You are smart to get involved in a fitness program with specific goals and behaviors.
Thanks for mentioning it because it prompted me, once again, to realized that I need to make more of a "program" out of what I am doing for exercise.

Wow! Those are some good ideas you have been taking from people. Yes reading things always seems to stick with you somehow. I am glad your food regimen is working for you, you are right don't mess with success if you are seeing positive results there is no need to change what you are doing. If you're bored then you may want to spice it up a little bit.
