Back to juicing again! Because of the Eat to Live Plan. Dr. Fuhrman.

I got CDs of Dr. Fohrman's book Eat to Live. I read the book long ago but the diet seemed impossible to me. Almost all vegetables and fruits. But the CD is very sensible. He actually says to eat what you regularly eat and add more vegetables and fruits. He says as your body gets healthier your tastes will crave dense nutrient foods (phytonutrients). Eventually you will eat less and less of The SAD diet we all grew up with. Standard American Diet.

I searched online and found an Eat to Live Diet . But it was under 1200 calories and had almost no meat or fats. The calorie count was impossibly low. I'd be starving. And Dr. Fuhrman doesn't suggest changing your diet suddenly anyway. The website was The Three Fat Chicks. I will look for more menus to be a better model for starting eating this way.

So I am adding vegetables and fruits to my present menus. I have been very tired for 5 days now and I sure hope this pulls me out of it!

    Everyone has to remember the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to have your body in complete balance.. If people run out and start just juicing and only plan to live on fruits and vegetables without doing the proper research you will lose muscle and lose the weight.

    HOWEVER you need protein to keep your muscles so they burn fat, remember each pound of muscle burns 30-50 calories a day.

    I did look at his website and his chart on proteins and although he shows that broccoli has 11 gm protein and steak only 6 gm he is leaving out the fact that meat is a complete protein and broccoli is not. You need all the essential amino acids to make a complete protein, without them it is not being brought into your body as complete protein.. Anything with a liver has complete protein, the only exception is soy..

    That being said if you aren't bringing the correct balance of complete proteins, carbs and fat into your diet you won't get correct blood sugar stabilization which in turn makes your body run at peak performance..

    I juice myself BUT when I do I make sure I add some high quality protein powder into it so the meal is balanced, otherwise all you are doing is spiking your blood sugar and when it crashes you will be hungry.

    Remember the weight will come off quick on his diet BUT what happens when you go back to "normal eating" ? The trick is to eat smaller meals more often, have the correct balance and eat the less processed food you can. Only eat red meat once or twice a week, chicken is always good and fish.

    I prefer to chew my food, but I started adding fruits and veggies years ago. I almost don't feel I've had a real meal without them now. And I do believe they have helped "heal" my taste for overprocessed foods. But I also had to commit to greatly reducing bingeing and grazing.

    I agree with the doctor. Make your changes gradual, but do make them!

    I have been doing a some of that my self kind of like the raw diet I also like juicing
    I have this killer morning Juice recipie that gets me going lots of veggies and fruit.

    Let me know how you come out with your diet..it sounds wonderful. I am thinking of purchasing a juicer....

    I have a sparkfriend that is following Dr. Fuhrman's plan I think I told you last year about it and she has lost over 40 lbs. in a couple of months and his plan it is only for 6 weeks where you eat mostly fruit and veggies and then start adding meats etc. back into the plan. I was going to do it but now I have a holistic nutritionist that wants to use me as her case study so have to follow her eating and supplement plan so she can document the outcome. I will probably have everything to start this around the first of June. I have to order supplements etc. I like the sounds and the results of Dr. Fuhrman's eating plan. Juicing is a good way to good vitamins etc. I have a few smoothie recipes from my friend that is doing the plan and they sounded really good. Again I am going crazy with no time for anything. Teri
