Today I am HAPPY!

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Today I am super duper happy.

I woke up grumpy because I had to be at 5:45 and the alarm doesn't go off until 7, and I had a toothache, so I couldn't go back to sleep. I lay in bed until 6:25, feeling Bingley's little paws pressing into the small of my back, then I decided, eff it, I'm just going to get up. Now the PLAN was to do some extra exercise this morning because I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow morning EARLY, but that fell through. So I had my coffee and moodily browsed SparkPeople for a while.

Around 7:30 I had to get in the shower before my husband needed it, so I decided to give myself a quick weigh-in before getting in. And...(drum roll please) After nearly 3 weeks of losing inches but no pounds, I can happily say I'm down 2 lbs in the last 3 days! I'm now at 247.6. In the past year I've lost 30 lbs, most of that doing absolutely nothing but switching out soda for healthier things. And in the 1.5 months since starting SparkPeople again after a loooong hiatus, I've lost almost 4 lbs.

Now that might seem like a small loss to some people, as it only averages out to 2.5 lbs. a month, but I'm happy with it. My diet is easily maintainable, as is my exercise, and I don't feel like I'm depriving myself of anything but excess fat and bad attitude!

I'm liking these results and I KNOW my doctor will be happy when I see him and have lost 4-5 lbs since he last saw me.

The best part? I don't crave those things that I used to gorge on, like potato chips and cookies. Now, instead of having 10 oreos at a time with milk, I had 3, which is a serving size, and skipped the milk. That's over 400 calories saved, and I was totally satisfied. The other night I had ONE potato chip and was FINE with it. It's really weird!

The best part is, I don't stress too much about eating. I'm really good at planning out a week's worth of food, making sure to cook plenty at night for lunch the next day, as I only like to go to the grocery store once a week, and I cook fresh 6 or 7 nights a week, with the occasional convenience food like premade pierogies or pasta sauce. I've even cut down on pasta. I can't help but think how weird it is that my body doesn't crave carbs like it used to. But again, I'm happy about it.

So to all of you who think it's too difficult, it's not! It just takes a good amount of planning and PREPPING, and you'll be happy like me. =)

    Awesome!

That was the biggest difference for me. I really thought I'd miss the junk food and the easy food (especially the easy food - remember how much I despised cooking?). I don't, because if I really want something, I can have it, using proper portion sizes. I think I'm most amazed by how out of whack my concept of a portion was before. I honestly thought I wasn't eating that badly, but when I look back at what I considered a single serving, I just shake my head.

it's really amazing, isn't it? I am so proud of you - actually, because you are brave enough to continue with the oreos but within the 'legal limits". I turned my back on sweets in November and because of 'fear' I have not allowed too many sweets in my meal plan because I don't trust the cravings. You are right though - the cravings ARE gone. BRAVO - keep up the great work and Congratulations on your success.
