First Midwest Bank Southwest Half Marathon

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

Well, I did it. I finished my second official half marathon this past weekend. It was hot, sunny and pretty much mostly hills. My feet are blistered, I'm sun burnt, but I'm still swooning from crossing that finish line! It was about seven minutes shy of where I wanted to be, but considering the weather, I'm content with my time of 2:43:48. It's still faster than my Cellcom time from last year.

I'm still sore, still tired and pretty sure I had an exercise hangover yesterday, but I'm already planning on doing another half Labor Day weekend and then a Ragnar in November!!!! I'm so pumped!!!

Oh, and here's some pictures of me down almost 40 pounds since I started running.

And here's me drenched after I crossed the finish line. I dumped more water on my head than I drank I think.

It was a great experience. I think the reason I love running races is because of how much I learn about myself by the time I cross that finish line. I'm determined, strong, and able to do anything I put my mind to. Plus, I love that feeling I get inside thinking about how my doctor told me I'd never run again after fracturing my ankle. Sorry, Doc. I proved you wrong.

WAY. TO. GO!!! When it's a crazy hot day, just crossing the finish line at all is a HUGE accomplishment, and you are right to be proud! Where is your Labor Day race going to be?

It was in Palos Heights--a suburb of Chicago.
