Noticing a trend

Sunday, May 06, 2012

emoticon I have noticed that in cutting down my salt, I am not eating within a proper calorie intake level. When I eat with the proper range, my sodium seems to skyrocket.

Time to take another look at what I prepare for my families meals. Good thing is I only bought a few of the culprit items and I'll be able to cut them out. YAY!

Legs are a bit swollen but that can be remedied by more water intake and exercise and watching salt intake today. Thank you for the nutrient log.

Sodium is rampant in the US. It is a preservative and adds flavor, so it goes into everything in extreme amounts. I suggest buying less frozen and pre-made foods and using veggies as the largest portion of your meal. Also removing beverages that aren't plain water will help.

Just remember that you must have some sodium in your diet. In your kidneys water and sodium work together. Too much water and/or not enough sodium will dehydrate you. This includes drinking a lot of water very quickly.

I would check with your doctor about the swelling in your legs if they hurt and/or if it gets worse or doesn't get better quickly. Leg swelling can be a dangerous symptom of some very bad conditions, so be cautious.

Thing that gets me is I don't add any to my meals. It is all in the food I use. I think that I am going to just have to buy fresh and cook it that way.

    Good luck to you too!
