Ok I am going to rearrange my strategy

Saturday, May 05, 2012

Well in order to feel well, and get more healthy. I have to develop a plan. My main effort is to get the essentials I need to sustain, and improve my well being.

Enough of these drastic decisions. Based on anothers Spark journey, like I said in former blog, what works for one, may not work for me. I found this out 3 days into the journey.

I love life, I love food (unfortunately some of it does not like me) I love to cook, I love to go to family functions and partake of good old fashioned home cooking. And what I plan to do with those is small portions, no seconds and no desserts.

But I still am on the journey to get well. So here goes.

I will stick with clean eating, I did great with this before although I didn't eat pork, how is that clean? I mainly ate fish and chicken. I would like to just go for fish in the future. I don't want to eat chicken because of what they do to the bird while growing the poor thing. If at all I would look at free range at Trader Joes or whoever sells that.

I am still going to cut back Dairy and sugar products, actually don't want to see much of either of these in my daily intake, I may have a bit of cheese on salads, but not enough to kill me, and I really love goat cheese. I have tried to stay away from processed foods, sometimes it sneaks itself back into my menu. But not too often. I am so against anything with the word "hydrogenated" in it.

I think I might look at what one Sparker mentioned and maybe incorporate 2 meals in to the raw food genre, and make my 3 rd meal a cooked one, maybe sauteed or wokked (is that a word? Well if it wasn't it is now!) lol

I would start my day with a green smoothie, and put the basis of my greens and fruits needed for the day. My lunch will be my cooked one, and I will finish with a raw salad, with whatever is needed to get my protein or fats in for the day. I will snack on raw food and organic popcorn.

That is my plan! and of course the needed water! I don't drink anything other than herbal. I have never been a soda drinker, thank goodness!

This will work for me. I know it! I have found that clean eating is the only thing that ever helped me. When I first joined Spark in 2009 I lost 46 lbs in 6 mos. with clean eating. No program ever did that for me formerly, even WW.

So it may not be totally raw, but it will be "Clean"!!!

It sounds like you are really happy with the plan you decided to stick to. I hope it works well for you.
I think we are always modifying our diet as we go along as we see what works for us and what doesn't. Each of us is unique and I think it takes time to really tune into our bodies
after not being so in touch for so long.
I wish you the best of luck.

I totally applaud your comment "Enough of these drastic decisions." As a firm believer in the babystepping, progress not perfection, philopsophy (I even launched a Babysteps Brigade team last year) I highly endorse making small changes in what you eat and how you exercise, as well as in your thinking and what you tell yourself.

What has helped me lose 60 pounds and counting over a year and a half is consistently doing pretty well, or a little bit better than before. I heard a piece of advice that I love on another blog, which I have passed on to many friends inside and outside the Sparkverse: Don't do anything to lose weight that you aren't willing to do for the rest of your life.

For me, the rest of my life doesn't include weighing, measuring and tracking everything I put in my mouth. I enjoy eating and tossing bunches of stuff into a huge salad or starting with a can of soup and adding bunches of veggies, homemade vegetable stock or vegetable juice and topping it with TJ's shredded parm. I happen to love TJ's roasted seaweed snacks, a very lo-cal & surprisingly low-sodium alternative to my beloved kettle chips & Triscuits. And I now buy bunches of the single serving ice creams on sale, because I just don't manage to make a pint of Ben & Jerry's last for 4 servings! And I have never altered my honey & half-and-half in my 2 gourmet cups of coffee per day (one on waking, the other with lunch or early afternoon); some rituals are just sacred, and I'm very willing to spend my calories there!

I don't think we can all use the same approach. I know food tracking works for a lot of people, and I applaud them. Some folks thrive on what I consider extreme diets. I gave up beef 20 years ago for political & environmental reasons, and I gave up alcohol 2 years ago because it made me stupid and always led to overindulging in snacking, and more significantly disconnected me from Spirit. I learned I can't buy bags of chips, because I can't make myself stop--but I'll opt for them as a side at lunch, and savor every last crumb!

I just want to support you in finding what works for you. Wishing you success!

Good luck with your new plan.

Just remember, 3 days by no means gives you an ideas of how a plan can work for you. The human animal is like all animals. We all have a species specific diet. What works for one works for all.

Any "not working" has to do with lack of information and not giving our poor bodies enough time to adjust after years of terrible eating.

You'll do fine as long as you keep eating clean.

Did loose some weight when I cut back on the dairy and sugar. I totally luv your fruit platter. Even though fruits are sweet , anything with sugar seems to increase my cravings for more.

Most people don't realize what a creative endeavor it is to lose weight the healthy way. The more creative you are, the more you'll enjoy it, and the more you enjoy it, the more successful you will be.
