First Bosu Class

Saturday, May 05, 2012

Started my morning out with some intense exercise in the form of Bosu, meaning both sides up, its a half swiss ball. It took some getting used to, but as the class went on and she repeated the movements many times, I quickly adapted and was able to do most of the moves. Only one, jumping with both feet on and off the ball I decided was too great an impact for my new hip and just modified it by doing it on the floor. The movements were all familiar to me, being a lot like a step class, only with a big balance challenge added. The instructor even helped me get on the floor so I could do the weights routine, which was in a bridge postion while leaning back into the ball, quite comfortable actually, and not at all hard for me as I am used to doing bridges. Worked up a good sweat and was happy with the instructor, who, at the end of class, gave everyone a high five. At $10 a class, though, its pretty pricy :( Mom thinks I should go in for some sessions with the personal trainer with her, but she has used up her three free ones. The trainer she was assigned happened to be the one teaching Bosu and she was given lessons on it.
After breakfast, I was tired from lack of sleep and the exercise and just laid around, not quite sleeping, just a bit of dozing. It was a laid back day where I started a new book, Peter May The Killing Room. Then, before dinner, we went for our walk and hike. The rain had let up and sunshine came through, but the winds were still very strong. Going across one of the bridges, we both got a faceful of sand and grit kicked up by the traffic. We did see an adult beaver and a young one, but out in the open, the wind was cold and we didn't stay around. Saw a young Asian man with those huge lens cameras taking photos of the beaver, he was right on the shorline. We haven't seen anyone taking such an active interest in them before.
Then it was home and supper and washing up and an evening of movies on TV. I njoyed watching two Audrey Hepburn movies, The Nun's Story and Green Mansions..
Good night all, Have a Super Saturday!

I wondered what bosu stood for, never tried it. The new gym I joined has some of those small weighted balls but I haven't used them yet. My triceps are sore from yesterday. I actually enjoy slight soreness, means I'm doing something, but not the pain my thigh muscles were in from my very first training class last Wed.

How cool! I've never tried bosu but heard it's fun. I like how you're always changing up your fitness routine so that it's never repetitive. Good for you! emoticon

I've seen BOSU balls at my gym and seen them on tv but haven't actually worked up the nerve to even try stepping on it. Great job doing a whole exercise class with it! I can't imagine jumping on and off with both feet because I'm afraid I'd end up either flat on my face or my behind LOL. But maybe with time and practice I could work up it. Glad you enjoyed it.

The bosu class is a challenge for all of us. I've never taken one, but glad to hear about your experience. It's wonderful to have a great instructor.

Beavers are so interesting to watch. We have them on the river sometimes. They come into the yard when the maple trees shed their seeds and eat until they are stuffed. They stay as long as they don't know we're watching them.

Canadians are probably so used to beaver, they don't pay attention to them.

Congratulations on doing well at the Bosu class. Your balancing muscles must be quite strong for you to do so well in your 1st class. Glad you got to walk, in spite of the wind, and had an enjoyable, well-deserved, relaxing evening. emoticon
