Another setback, kinda discouraged but gonna do what I can

Friday, May 04, 2012

So I hurt my back at work last week. I was hoping a few chiropractor visits would fix it but it got even more injured on Tuesday. I love being a nurse but the toll it takes on my body is a lot to pay sometimes. So weights class is out, dance class is out. I can still walk for a bit, I took my daughters on a mini bike ride yesterday but that hurt too badly. I'm trying to do what I can and just keep moving even if it's not technically "exercise". Sitting hurts it so I guess that's a motivator to keep up and moving. I've lost so much muscle mass this year with all the crap that's happened that it's kinda discouraging. I'm back to where even light exertion burns the old quads. So I'll be starting all over again. But I just want to get my back healthy so that I can lift weights safely and get back in shape.

I've had back surgery to remove part of a disk. A couple years later some of the pain came back and I was told that I would need to get those 2 vertebrata fused. I didn't want another surgery so I just dealt with the chronic pain. It makes working out excruciating. Well a couple months ago I started seeing an Acupuncturist/Chinese Medicine practitioner on a referral from my MD. The very first treatment I had the pain dissipated during treatment and it was more than bearable the week after. I've been seeing him weekly but we are working on more than just my back. There are some days where the pain flairs up but then I have a treatment and it is gone again. Perhaps it would be worth seeing an Acupuncturist? I don't know where in Oregon you are located but here is the website for mine: kumoacupuncture.com It would be worth getting some relief while your back heals and slowly getting it healthy.

back injuries are tough. take it easy and don't beat yourself up - part of being healthy is listening to your body and knowing what you need to do to take care of yourself.
