the weather excuse

Wednesday, May 02, 2012

I live in north Florida and the weather here can be unpredictable, especially in the spring. Some days it is in the 70s, low humidity, i.e. perfect exercising weather. Some days it is in the 40s, which is not bad exercising weather but better stay-in-bed weather. And then there are days like today, when it was in the 80s but the humidity made it feel like it was in the 90s. Absolutely MISERABLE exercising weather, at least for me. And with this being May, days like this one are going to be the norm until September, when it get goes back to being unpredictable again.
I tend to put off exercising because it's too hot. There is some justification behind this because heat stroke, dehydration, etc. are real possibilities here in Florida. But unfortunately, I tend to let this excuse from ALL exercising, even from exercising inside, where it's air-conditioned. My summer resolution is to keep up my exercise regime despite the heat by going to a gym or staying inside. I'm not going to let humid 80 or 90 degree days keep me from my fitness goals.

Have you looked at Walk Away the Pounds on Youtube? They have a 15 min video which is 1 mile. I try to do it a few times in the day if I can't get out. The banter is annoying at times but if you mute it and use your iPod it can be a good workout.
You are consistently in the top fitness minutes list fro Jacksonville so you manage to get your exercise in.
    Well Done!

DMF2012: The humidity is a killer isn't it? I'm not a morning person but that's probably another excuse of mine to not exercise.

BJPENNY70: You're right about getting the exercise in, no matter where you are.

I'm in SWFL and get out to walk earlier in the morning to beat the heat, but can't avoid that humidity emoticon

You are being sensible to stay in on hot days like that. As long as you exercise it doesn't matter where. Be careful of that awful heat. We have it here in SC too.
