I had a convicting conversation with a close friend this weekend. We sat and talked about image issues for the first time together, and found out our stories had lots of parallels we didn't know about. As we encouraged each other with Scripture, she challenged me on how much I was eating and how often I stepped on the scale.
I listened and thought about what she said, realizing I was slipping into eating too little and stepping on the scale too much. She challenged me to throw my scale away. I don't think I can quite do that, because I do have work I want to maintain, and my body won't maintain itself without some regulation.
But, I have resolved to do the following:
Ensure I am eating at least 1200 calories a day (1000 calories had become my low-end range, and its just not enough food for me to be healthy).
Weigh once a month, and no more. (I will step on the scale on the first Friday of each month, and leave it alone the rest of the time).
I know these are things Sparkpeople has encouraged us to do more than once, but this is the first time I have actually labored to do them.
So, lots of lifestyle changes.
This means that my current plan is as follows:
Abstinence from caffeine and artificial sweeteners
Calorie tracking everyday, no matter what
Eat at least 1200 calories a day
Weigh once a month
Additionally, I am working on increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables that end up in my diet. Right now, I can go a whole day without either, and I actually really like fruit. Plus, another friend shared with me that eating a piece of fruit with each meal really helped her cut down on cravings for sweets. Something to try, I think.
So far, so good on my original resolutions. I think this is the first time health has REALLY been my goal, not just looking good.
