Day 1

Friday, April 27, 2012

Well I'm starting my first day in pain from trying to exercise too much yesterday. My thighs and shins burn and abs ache. I decided to start walking / running at least 3 days out the week. I figured mornings would be the best right after I put my son on the bus. I wanted to walk for 5 min the jog for 5 min off and on for about 2 miles up the road to the water front and back home. This took me 40 min to do. I was foolish to think I was even close to being as fit as when I was in college. Not 5 min into jogging I was out of breathe which probably has a lot to do with my smoking habit. That my friends is another challenge entirely. Running on the road is also rough on the body and bones.
However, after my walk/run I felt great, like I could take on the world and this weight was nothing to lose I could do this. My son comes home and wants to take the walk too after hearing me talk about it. I figured what the heck I could walk it this time no problem, even took my daughter in the stroller. BAD IDEA !! I was half way to the water and in pain, I tried to do too much the first day. That's when I realized I needed help with this and to pace myself. Its not going to happen over night. I just have to try not to get discouraged if a bump in the road occurs. Having other people to talk to and get advice from that are going through similar circumstances seems like just what I need and in turn hope I can help someone else as well. So, lets begin ....

Goodness, what a way to start! I'm sorry you went through that much pain in one day, but here's the good of it: You now know your REAL starting point.

Not what you thought it is...not what you wished it is...not what you've fooled yourself, maybe, into believing it is...but what it really is.

Now that you're under no misconceptions about where you need to begin you can figure out where you want to go and how to get there, right?

Take care of yourself until you work out the soreness, then go for it again. You CAN do it. You just need to do it differently than your first effort.

emoticon My best to you on this journey to health.
