The Making Of An Athlete

Friday, April 27, 2012

I didn't see the issue or hear about it until I began searching for something to inspire me for BLC's no excuses first weekend challenge. I knew what I was looking for to share but I had to really search to find something and it isn't what I thought I wanted but it did inspire me. How many of us think - - that all athletes are born that way? Fit, self confident, comfortable in their skin? You Go to the link and watch the video and you will be surprised by what you hear.

And for those of us - many of us - with body image issues....WOW!!!! would you have ever thought that any of these athletes would have?

And then there is Sarah Reinertsen the first woman parathlete to EVER compete and finish in arguably (or is it) the world's most arduous extreme event the World Ironman with a biography of MANY incredible finishes.

I want to grow up to be like Sarah. NO EXCUSES. JUST DO IT!!!!!

Hi Kal, Last week was our Walk the Talk epilepsy walk here in Stuart, Florida, I have been nursing an arthritic hip and have been in physical therapy , the walk was up and over a bridge and I didn't think I should walk over the bridge ( the next day I found out that my intuition was correct that the incline was ok the decline was not ok for my hip per my therapist ) anyway our case worker for the Epilepsy Foundation at the walk asked me if I had brought a chair and I said ' No I had rode my bike , she said Oh you can't stand over there for the duration I will get someone else to do this task ( she had wanted me to direct the walkers) I said I can stand just fine . So I thought it was set a little later she said she got someone else to do it so I wouldn't hurt myself and I put my hand on my hips and I said ' DON'T TREAT ME LIKE I AM DISABLED!" LOL Double joke there ( was a walk for epilepsy , I have epilepsy along with other things , I can stand and direct people for goodness sake. So this week I am back and at em and happy for that!

One word: HUMBLE. Did you see the BL this season when they were surfing with the young woman who lost her arm to a shark? She was absolutely awe inspiring and made me feel like a wimp for sitting on the couch.

That is such an inspiration. I'm going to keep that in mind the next time I start thinking "I can't".

It is interesting to hear that we all sometimes have some sort of insecurity. I'd seen this story before, but needed to see it again! I am like you I am removing the excuses and just doing it! Moving forward is always better than moving backward.
