what is a safe amount of calories to burn in one day?

That depends on what you eat. As a woman you should never go below 1200 calories a day. You need that so your body doesn't go into starvation mode and ends up keeping all your fat because it is thinking you aren't going to be eating that day. You need to find out your BMR which is the amount of calories you need to keep your weight as is now. And you need to know your AMR which is what you burn just by sitting around and not doing anything.

So for example: My BMR is 1475. My AMR is 1670. If I burn 375 calories working out (at home & walking), that brings my burn total up to 2045 (AMR + workout). If I eat 1475 calories (my BMR), that gives me a deficit of 570 calories. If I repeated this 6 more times, I would lose 1lb of fat. (because 1 lb of fat is 3500 calories and if I have a difference of 500 calories a day, over 7 days that is 3500 calories or one pound.)

Everything you need to find your BMR and AMR is at my blog entry:

Read the whole blog... but if you scroll down to # 14, 15 & 16 you will see links to find out your BMR and AMR.

    Hope this helps!
