Last Weekend's Project

Thursday, April 19, 2012

Some of my team mates know that I live in an old farm house. It was built in 1900 and ever since we bought it (almost 5 years ago), we've worked on one project after another. We do most of the work ourselves, but we know when to call someone else in! However, one project we did was to replace the kitchen carpeting with a pretty pine floor. DH put it all down and then I stained and put the polyurethane on it. Unfortunately, it didn't get quite finished, so after nearly 4 years, last weekend was designated "finish the floor" weekend. We moved the table and chairs out and I scrubbed up a storm.

Richard decided to snap a photo of me on my prayer bones. Usually I am taking pictures of him, so don't know what got into him! LOL! Probably because it was an unusual sight--me cleaning on my hands and knees!! Notice the 2 pillows under my knees.

Caught in the act for this one. Such attractive working gear!!

The finished (but still wet) floor. It didn't dry a shiny finish, but has a "satin" shine to it. I was disappointed in some spots I didn't get really well, but they don't show much with the table/chairs back in. "Some" day I may try to fix them.

Thought I'd share them with my team mates who have to listen to me talk about one project or another!! Next on the agenda? Hmm...don't know yet, as my knees are still tender! LOL!

Beautiful floor!!! That was a lot of work. What a fantastic idea of pillows under the knees!! Don't know if that would be enough for me but it is something I have never thought of. That was a lot of hard work but the pay off is wonderful! You get to see it every day!!

Your floors are beautiful just like you are. . .You can do mine anytime you want. It's great you and Richard are in such good shape as I'd have to hire someone to do that for me and as you know then it runs into too much money. Just getting a peek at your roomy kitchen your house looks beautiful. Knowing you I'll bet you'll have another project lined up soon. Working hard does help keep you young and healthy! You sure do get a good workout and I know your knees need a good rest--as you do also.

    Love,

    Jill

You did a great job! The floor is beautiful. There are so many projects around our house that we have put off. Maybe it is time for me to get to it! Thank you for the inspiration.

Wow, Jeannie! That floor is just beautiful! I LOVE the old farmhouses, I lived in one from the age of 15 till I was 21 and married. Ours was also built about the same time, it was built for my Dad's grandmother just after his grandparents emigrated from Germany!
Please keep posting pictures of your projects, I really enjoyed seeing them!
Great exercise! I would have the pillows under MY knees, too! emoticon
