5K Training, Day 1
Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Well, I did it! I set a goal to start training for a 5k fundraising race I'm doing in July for my husband's work. Let me make one thing clear to begin with....I'm NOT a runner. I've done little 1-2 minute running intervals on the treadmill, but I've done no running outside. I take that back...I remember some time when I was younger, living at my parents house, I thought I'd give running a try. So I put on some short, laced up my shoes and set off. I didn't even make it half a block. I was so embarrassed. Embarassed that I couldn't make it a block and embarrased that someone might have seen me not make it that block. Fast forward many years later, and here I am, trying it again. Tonight, I was able to run for a solid minute, just over a block, before I had to take a break and get my breathing under control. But, I didn't let myself quit. I finished the entire set...4 minute walk, 1 minute run (repeat 4 times) and then cool down for 5 minutes. I kept telling myself to let go of that girl that didn't make it a block, that I could do this! And that it's not only a good goal to run in a fundraiser, but it's a good goal for me!
