The Real Fruit Ninja

Monday, April 16, 2012

I recently discovered a hidden gem in my neighborhood - Aldi. I had passed this store many a day travelling to Wally World, Kroger, and other grocers to shop. While browsing store ads online, my jaws literally dropped at the site of the produce prices in Aldi. I mean, we sometimes get stuck in the mindset that it takes mucho dinero to eat healthy, when in fact, it can be done on a tight budget if you take the time to shop around. Last week, I went in and racked up. I bought fresh pineapples and cantaloupes at 99cents each. I bought a bags of navel oranges and cartons of strawberries for 1.49 each. I bought bags of pears for 1.19 each, mangos for 49cents each, and bags of kiwi(5) for 89cents each. With prices like these, yours truly became a real "Fruit Ninja" last night. I chopped pineapples, hulled strawberries, and sliced kiwis to place in the freezer for later use in smoothies and other recipes. I will be slicing cantaloupes tonight for consumption all week. I also plan to dice mangos tonight to stir in my yogurt. I tossed an orange and pear in my bag for my at work snacks today. When it's affordable and easy, I tend to make the right choice. This week I see they have red, orange, and yellow peppers on sale. This week I may become "Veggie Ninja."

I shop at Aldi's all the time, there fit & active stuff can be good too. My favorite is the fit & active carmel rice cakes(tasty) & the f&a ice cream sandwhichs are good too. Eating healthy can be expensive & I am shopping anywhere I can to keep on the healthy food track. Good Luck, Stay Positive & happy healthy shopping. emoticon

I wish there was one near me. It sound great. The next best thing is local Farmer's Market at Eastern Market in DC (by metro, no car).
The fruit sounds really good. My son and I love smoothies.

Aldi is just great. Tiffy0906, I live in the Summerhill Area just south of downtown, so the one nearest to me is on Moreland Ave. Check their ads online and follow this link to find the one nearest to you:

Ok, I live in the Atlanta area - I didn't know they had an Aldi's in ATL. I'm originally from Chicago and they are everywhere. So where is this Aldi's even though I am in Cumming, I come closer to the city on weekends (that's where my church is) - I can probably stock up. Good find.
