A little freaked and my talk...

Sunday, April 15, 2012

So I'm a little freaked because of my foot. The left one. It is SWOLLEN! It hurts a lot - like the skin is stretched and maybe the bones under the skin are sore too. It is just the top of my foot, from the toes to almost the ankle - the bottom is fine. There is no redness, no heat, so I'm assuming this isn't an infection, but I think I've got to head to the doctor tomorrow.

This thing has been going on since about Wednesday, and seems to do worse with activity. I followed the RICE rule (rest, ice, compression and elevation) and it seems to help, but it is not completely better. I've also been doing very little on it - no official cardio since friday. I am really feeling the need to work out now.

My talk went well. I picked shoes that hid my freakish left foot, and managed to talk myself out of producing enormous sweat stains on my unfortunately chosen "shirt that shows all wetness". The only bummer was that I went first, and since more than 3/4 of the people showed up late, I gave my talk to about 5 people. The current chair had a much bigger crowd, but we were able to do the q&a together with about 20 folks. I got to send out my statement, so hopefully, those who missed it were able to read it.

The weird thing is, that I've been pretty ambivalent about this whole thing. I thought it would be good either way, because I knew how much work it would be if I got it. I actually got sort of nervous a couple of times before the talk, wondering what I might be getting myself in to. Well, now that the talk is over, I find myself feeling more confident. Not that I will win - I honestly have no idea about the outcome. I just feel very confident in my ability to DO THIS THING. If I'm selected, I will be challenged, I will have to work very hard. Heck! I do that already! I'm a sparkperson! I'm feeling capable, and full of pride in the way I carried myself at the meeting. I think I can be a good leader, and I think I'm ready.

We'll see soon if I get the chance- the ballots are due this week, and will be counted on Friday.

Oh girlie, all I can think is "stay calm, carry on. Yes, I am the queen". You ARE the queen, being all carry-onish and calmish and queenish! You go girl! I know you can totally rock this position, but your outlook is even better! Man, if only we all had it in us 24/7...

I know what you mean about that desire to work out - isn't it wonderful!? :) My jog around the block to test my shin this afternoon was absolutely blissful (although painful). Our bodies are meant to just MOVE so I hope your foot gets super better super fast! Keep us updated!

afa your foot, RICE may take a couple of days before you can stretch a little safely. Sounds pretty bad if swollen; I thought mine could ill on their own, but they didn't and now it's PT 2x/wk. How did it happened?

Good luck with the chair race :)

You strike me as a very "rise to the challenge" kind of gal. I have no doubt that you would make a wonderful department head and would work your behind off to be a positive and dynamic guiding force for your fellows.

I'm sorry your foot is bad, but you're making smart choices to get back to where you need to be. Feel better.

I love that your confidence shines through. I do hope you get it so that you can challenge yourself, but if you don't, hey, more time to focus on yourself and your family!

As for the foot, keep us posted. Not good :(

I know you are a good leader and how rude for anyone to come late. That irks me!!! And I am sorry that happened to you. If you get it, great, if you don't get it, great. About your foot...icky :( Hopefully the soc can help out. Good luck.
