BodyMedia Fit Armband

Thursday, April 12, 2012

I received my armband yesterday. I think it's just the kick in the butt I need. I think that the machines at the gym are way overestimating the amount of calories I'm burning, and therefore, I'm not burning enough. Something I can't figure out though - you are supposed to wear it at night and it will analyze your sleep. I went to bed at 10, and got up about 6:45. Yet it says I only slept three and a half hours. It also says I walked about 500 steps before I even got up. Yes I woke up a few times to use the restroom (took a water pill last night), but I can't see how this is accurate. The only thing I can think of is that I did a lot of tossing and turning last night. Has anyone used it and gotten the same kind of results?

Update 5/11: I officially LOVE this thing! I've been using it for a month now. It has definitely gotten me to be more active throughout the day (I work a desk job, so this is a challenge). I've discovered that even on off-days, or days I don't have time to get to the gym, I can burn enough just by taking a walk around my neighborhood. If you can afford it, I strongly suggest you get one.

I have a BodyMedia Fit and have been using it successfully for the last month. It's pretty accurate as far as I've been able to tell. Have you been having any better luck lately? Maybe you didn't have a good contact point between your skin and your monitor? I have run into the same problem with the gym machines overestimating my caloric burn - this morning the machine told me I burned an even 600 and in reality I was just short of 500. That's a big difference!

I've been thinking about getting one too and researching the different brands. I'd be interested to see how you like it after a few weeks! Thanks for sharing!

I've actually been pondering one of those gadgets to track sleep and was curious what it is based on. I wonder if some of that time variance is because of the waking up for the restroom and the time it took to fully get back to sleep after.

I just got mine, but haven't used it yet. I think the 500 steps may be accurate, but the sleep thing is interesting. I'll let you know as soon as I get mine in service.
