We Don't Realize We Are Hurt

Monday, April 09, 2012

On Saturday night my Sister fell in her living room. I tried to convince her to go to the ER. She said she was a little sore, but she was O.K.

My Sister lives in Omaha, Nebraska, a very long way from me. I called her a couple of times to check on her, she said she was fine.

Yesterday, as I was walking in to the nursing home to see Mom, my cell phone rang. My Sister is in the ER. From the fall on Saturday, she had dislocated her thumb and jammed her fingers up to her wrist. She has a cast up to her elbow.

I just got off the phone with her this morning. She is O.K. and laughing at herself, because she is having a hard time adjusting to doing things with her left hand.

Just like my Sister, a lot of us have been hurt by things and people in our lives. We don't always realize the hurt at the time. It doesn't show up until later. We think that we are O.K, but that hurt comes back to haunt us as we get older.

We know that physical pain doesn't last forever. And we need to let go of the emotional pain so that it doesn't last forever.
