I ATE A HOT DOG...SO WHAT!

Sunday, April 08, 2012

OK, I've been working a lot of hours this week, it's a holiday weekend, I had to stop by Wal-Mart on the way home from work. I was tired and wanted to go to bed. Oh yeah, I'm a mom, I'm supposed to feed the family...Can we have hot dogs, mom? Absolutely!

So hot dogs on the George Foreman grill, yummy. I only ate one. With a bun, ketchup, and mustard...

I entered it into Sparkpeople. I was right where I was supposed to be on my nutrition tracker for the day.

No big deal right???

So this morning I woke up...no Easter Services for me, I'm going back to work. No Easter dinner with family...I'll still be at work. Nope...the dad is grilling today...yup-hot dogs. They will save me some.

I felt so guilty when I woke up today BECAUSE I ATE A HOT DOG!!! I'VE BEEN DOING REALLY WELL TRACKING MY NUTRIENTS. I LOST 11 POUNDS! I KNOW THAT ONE HOT DOG LAST NIGHT DID NOT HURT ME!

BUT I FEEL SO GUILTY! WHY? AND THAT'S BEFORE I EAT A BRAT WHEN I GET HOME FROM WORK TODAY! AND I KNOW I WILL BE HUNGRY! I MAY EVEN EAT 2 BRATS!

SO...WHATS THE BIG DEAL?!?!?!

AAARGH!!!

I think we've been brainwashed into believing that in order to lose weight you must deprive yourself and in order to do that you should avoid all foods you like, because if it tastes good and you want to eat it, it must be fattening and you can't eat it and lose weight.

Not true. If we eat portion sizes of food, you should be able to eat everything.

Hot dogs are not the healthiest of foods, I try to keep my hot dog eating limited to once or twice a month if that. I also eat Pizza, and Burger King *gasp* and other "bad" foods but they are limited to kid size, or at least portion sizes and are a couple times a month, not every day.

Your doing great! keep it up!

Don't be hard on yourself. After all, you are human. Plus, you still have to live and enjoy life. As long as you don't go overboard, and don't make indulging a regular habit, you'll be fine. Life throws us curve balls. We can get past them. Congratulations on the 11 pounds you have lost so far! Keep up the great work!!

    ((Hugs))

Some days (like Saturday) I'm completely on track and then my brain hits me with a craving. So we ordered Arby's for dinner. I tracked it was surprised to still be in my calorie range. I didn't feel to bad about it. However, there are days where I eat out and then I'm way over my range and I feel guilty like you described. I think its just part of this journey but I try not to beat myself up about it. I still want to enjoy the things I love. I'm just going to be sensible when it comes to enjoying them and not go crazy.
