Aw Nuts!

I know they're good for you, but I have usually avoided adding nuts to my menu due to the extremely high calories, and the fact that I rarely am satisfied with just a little palm-full (1/4 cup serving). About a week ago I started adding several servings of nuts (my two favorites are walnuts and sunflower kernels) a day. That boosted my calories up between 400 and 800 a day, and I didn't change too much else to my menu. Each day I'd be sure I was going to either gain or maintain, but no, EVERY day I lost. Usually about .5 pounds!!!! Disclaimer: I also have been eating a LOT of leafy greens, substituting a big green salad for my usual carb portion at dinner, and eating salad for lunch, the only time I've been allowing starch or grain based carbs is at breakfast. Still though, leafy greens and lower carbs (not all that low, I still get between 120 and 180 g of carbs a day, usually vegetable based though I think that makes a big difference) aside, my calories have been between 1900 and 2000, yesterday even a little over 2000 because I had a full cup of sunflower kernels as an afternoon snack. And this morning, I lost .5 pounds. I'm all out of walnuts and sunflower seeds, and I think I'll take a few days break before buying any more, but I'm not going to be as worried about adding them in the future.
