Are you hungry for change?

Saturday, March 31, 2012

While most of my life I've had an uneasy suspicion, over the last four years I have become completely convinced that 'being fat' is not THE problem, it is a symptom of much more serious problem, and the healing journey with which I've been recently gifted proves this moreso every day.

I just discovered the following video offer late Friday evening... my husband and I watched it immediately... there are only a few hours left for free viewing (the offer ends midnight, March 31st... the trailer and Part 1 remain available!), but in my opinion, the video is worth the price (I watched it a second time on my own after hubby went to sleep and made notes... insomnia has its *dubious* upside). Check it out:

"We are not eating food anymore, we are eating food-like products."

"People are looking for a result that is superficial... they're not really considering that this (beauty, vitality, weight loss) can be accomplished from the inside out."

"You're genetically and naturally and normally programmed to put on fat when there is food available... so, if your body perceives itself to be 'starving' at a cellular level, it will protect you at all costs by developing fat cells and filling them."

"You can eat an unlimited amount of calories a day, but if you're not getting the specific nutrients your body needs, in a way that your body can digest and assimilate them, then you're starving at a cellular/nutritional level, and as long as you're starving at a cellular/nutritional level, your body is going to stay hungry to get those specific nutrients."

"People are overfed, but they are also starving to death."

"You decrease/increase your longevity by what you eat, what you drink, and what you think."

"The 'fat' in low/no fat foods is replaced by carbohydrates (sugar)."

"These things will make you fat despite all your best efforts: chemicals of any kind, MSG, high-fructose corn syrup, aspartame (artificial sweeteners in general), processed grains, refined sugar, and refined fats (vegetable oils)."

"Your body doesn't recognise chemically engineered food (think margarine) as nutrients it can use."

"If you want to lose weight permanently, you need to expand your understanding of what sugar is.... and how insidiously involved it is in every food that is processed in any way."

"The dieting paradigm violates your body's natural survival laws. Every time you force your body to lose weight you trigger your body's impulses to store calories as fat."

"The best strategy we've got is to keep eating and simply add in the good nutritious food. It will eventually just crowd out the bad stuff. Ask yourself, 'Can you move - one babystep at a time - in the direction of what takes you in the direction of your 'natural diet'?'" Do you have the courage, curiousity and love/respect for yourself to try?

"One of the ways the human body protects itself against the onslaught of toxicity in our environment and in our food is to store the chemicals in body fat (the body will create fat for this purpose if necessary - most of these chemicals are lipophilic or 'fat-loving' - they don't dissolve in water, they dissolve in fat, so they also attach to fat). If you force the body into burning fat without creating the conditions by which the body is able to cleanse and detoxify and neutralize and render these chemicals water-soluble so they can be sweated off or peed away, you're burning fat but not getting rid of the toxins, leaving them to do damage they weren't doing as long as they were stored in fat. So if you're taking in more toxins than you're eliminating, your body isn't going to let you burn fat (why diet soda actually causes you to gain weight over time). The body only wants to heal, and if you're not supporting this process, its only defense is to hang onto fat."

"We can only eat so much in a day, so why not make each bite count for health and beauty?"

"Deep sleep will metabolize excess stress hormones (cortizol and epinephrine) better than anything else... if you don't sleep enough, you will gain 2 pounds just from a sleepless night alone because the stress of it on your body increases fluid retention. The liquid pounds inevitably transform to fat pounds (stress hormones trigger fat production as a protective response... creating fat is our body's least life-threatening and most efficient response to a perceived threat)." (No D@MN wonder I'm fat... and it's a testimony to everything else I do that I'm not fatter!)

"Your body uses fat to protect you... from painful feelings, from negative thoughts, from a toxic environment, from fear, from abuse, from external stresses (the physical entity known as your body on its own has a limited repertoire of protective abilities... if you don't respond proactively, or in an empowered way, to the fight/flight response - which, BTW, doesn't only occur in physically threatening and obvious situations, your body will respond at a cellular level by creating fat to insulate you from the continued hormonal onslaught)."

"The more you can allow love and safety in your life, the more your body will release fat. (Are you even aware of the depth of your own self-loathing... or the depth of your helplessness, anger, envy, neediness, frustration, lack of forgiveness, pain - physical and emotional?) SPARKpeople is a community which says (most of the time): Let us love you until you love yourself." Find that in your life which loves you until you can love yourself!

"Post it on your bathroom mirror: 'I accept myself unconditionally right now' and twice a day for 30 days, look yourself in the eyes and say this out loud. By about day 28, something will shift for the better in your life."

"The stronger and more compassionate your witness self gets (how you view yourself in relation to the world... your own eyes meeting your own steady gaze in the mirror), the healthier you become."

"Your body is designed to be healthy. Health is our natural state of being." Go out an pursue wellness and health and vitality and the rest will follow.

emoticon "I looked out and listened to the quiet beauty of nature in the springtime and realized that I, like nature, have this amazing PRESENT to fill with mindfulness, and my sense of quiet desperation diminished and I began looking at how to approach the day in grace and beauty." VALERIE MAHA

emoticon "We can't stop bad things from happening, but we can stop our relentless focus on how things were or how we want them to be, and develop a deeper appreciation for what we have now." HARRIET LERNER, 'Dance of Fear'

emoticon "Sooner or later the universe sends everybody a crash course in vulnerability.... We can't avoid fear and suffering, but we can choose to encounter it in ways that will help us to feel connected and whole again." HARRIET LERNER, 'Dance of Fear'

Wow. Thank you so much. This is a wealth of information. I also have always believed that being fat is a symptom. Until one solves the underlying reasons...physical, mental, emotional and spiritual; the underlying fat problem will still be an issue. I love the quote about being fat yet starving. It makes so much sense. HUGS.

You're right on it, my friend. Saw the video, hoping they will put it back up for awhile longer for more to view and comprehend. Our addictions (for sugar and junk food) are deep rooted, and while difficult to overcome, it is not impossible.

LOL! RAWORGANICVEGAN: I'm just curious... did you and I watch the same movie? Because I thought "guilt tripping ourselves for being weak when the actual problem is ingesting the chemicals, additives, food preservatives, gmo, msg, and untold crap that is changing our brain chemistry" is EXACTLY what they DID truly address on EVERY level (it's not just about what/how we eat) throughout 'Hungry for Change'!

It is precisely this focus which makes the movie so powerful!

I don't feel they addressed the issues in a small way at all (to make it about food alone is what falls short). I felt they were extremely comprehensive of the issues as well as respectful and understanding of human nature. I thought they approached the issues with sensitivity, compassion, and wisdom... each expert was loving and humble. Rather than from someone with a critical, self-serving focus (as are so many with an opinion of how we *need* to eat/heal), I'd much rather learn from people who approach me (and the subject matter) with compassion and love, and who accept me unconditionally right now... as they did in the movie.

More food for thought... chew slowly.

    2BMYOWN: AMEN, Sister!

It all starts from within, Ramona. I've been on the same 'crash course' here lately, obviously. I finally had that moment when I realized that until I could heal what was wrong with me inside, I was doomed to always fail externally. I wish I had realized these things 40 years ago, really, it could have saved me from a lifetime of grief and rebounding behaviors. I'm still not done....and I still have a long way to go, in this. I'm not even totally sure I am going to be able to succeed at this in this lifetime, but I am finally working on the right things, instead of all of the wrong things, but lemme tell ya....it's the hardest journey I've ever undertaken, I think. Nothing but good wishes your way for finding this path of wholeness. Here's to both of us succeeding in our search for ourselves.

I watched that movie the first day it came out and ordered it for my students in my new Whole LIfe Healing mentoring business.

What they didn't truly address at any length is that here we are blaming and guilt tripping ourselves for being weak when the actuall problem is ingesting the chemicals, additives, food preservatives, gmo, msg, and untold crap that is changing our brain chemistry. We are hooked! The phood producers designed their product this way. They win, we lose and live lives suffering and die an early death.

The way to undo this all: eat a low fat raw organic vegan program. Do this for 60 days and then follow it with a 92 day juice feast healing protocol. You'll be glad you did! I am on day 42 of my juice feast journey and am a new person.
