Old Goat 50 Mile race - my hubby's report

Thursday, March 29, 2012

I watched Paul start the race on Saturday at 6:30 am, saw him once during the day at around 21 miles, and then didn't see him again until around 6:30 pm. We spent the day out in the middle of nowhere, banded together to support less than 150 runners - runners who were out testing themselves to conquer the mountains - and their own minds and bodies...
I'm so proud of Paul and what he's accomplished for himself - with less than a year of ultrarunning under his belt he has conquered some very harsh terrain, and has taken each experience straight to the heart. I love watching and helping him out through all of this!
And my 14yo son - he is growing up in this environment and latching on to it... he went out to several aid stations during this race and volunteered, helping out runners and making sure they were getting everything they needed. He waited at two different aid stations for his Dad, and then after all of that, ran the last 9-10 miles with a friend to finish her race!

AMAZING....congratulations to your husband...well done supporting him and the others who were on the same path. I am in awe of those who run that kind of mileage and hope one day to run a 50K...hubs is not hot about me doing anything longer...we'll see. Will check out your link.... Again, huge congrats, it's a great accomplishment and setting a great example for your son and motivating others!
