Allergies. OH MY GOODNESS!!!

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Just got back from the Allergist. Haven't been to one since I was a younger child.

Well, two of the things I am very allergic to are Dust Mites 1 and Dust Mites 2. WHAT THE *&%@. Are you kidding???

O.K., then he said I am allergic to Dust Mites that are in flour and breaded foods from restaurants. He said that I need to eat in a place where I can control the environment. (Like at home.) If I eat in a restaurant, I am taking a chance.

When I clean my house,I need to be using a mask.(DANG!!!)

I told him that the flour and meal I use at home, I keep in the refrigerator. He said that was good.

I told him all I could eat according to him, was potatoes. He said, I know you are kidding, but it may be true.

He wants me to take Allegra every day and he wants me to keep an Eppie Pen with me all of the time.

My drug store needed to order the Eppie Pen. So I asked them how much it was. $300+ dollars. I told them not to order it. I have no insurance that will cover my Meds., and I certainly cannot afford that much for a Pen that I might not use. I will call him in the morning to see what else he can do for me.

Life is a mess. But we just have to keep on keeping on.

Blessings to all,
Brenda

I'm sorry to hear this Brenda. I think I have allergies, but haven't been to a specialist yet. I hope you can get some relief soon. Thinking of you and remembering you in my prayers.

I had to try several allergy meds before finding the one that worked best without the drowsiness/insomnia that is the side effect of so many. I was allergic to so many things that I have been going through allergy treatments off and on for 20 years. But one thing I was told with my food allergies is that since I haven't shown signs of anaphylaxis, to carry Benadryl and antacids and if i think I have been exposed, take both of those.

I am allergic to the dust mites too. There are pillow cases that are allergen proof that help with this that work quite well. When you dry your sheets, dry them in the dryer on a high temperature to eliminate the dust mites. I hope the Allegra gives you some relief! I carry an epi-pen because of numerous allergies and I never know what is going to set me off. If your allergy is potentially life-threatening, this can save your life. I would definitely check with the doc to see if the pharmaceutical company has any programs to help reduce the cost or to provide it for free. Many manufacturers have such programs. Good luck my friend!

I am allergic to them as well. It is good that you know what to do. Hopefully your doctor can come up with an alternative to the pen.

Dr's often prescribe things without thinking of the cost to the patient. I hope that he can come up with an affordable alternative, or another option to you having to pay $300. God will somehow work these things out. I hope that the Allegra will give you some relief. Keep that positive attitude, girl!
Will keep you in my prayers.
