1 Year Spark Anniversary
Wednesday, March 28, 2012
Today is my official 1-year Spark anniversary. Although I haven't taken my measurements since January, I can summarize some other important numbers:
-I've lost 78 pounds
-I've lost 4 dress sizes
-I spent 6,600 minutes working out (110 hours)
-I burned 76,750 calories
-I walked or elliptical-ed 417.84 miles
-I've lost at least 37 inches overall
Since day 1, I kept track of everything I did in an Excel spreadsheet, since I'm a numbers junkie. And I knew that being able to see summaries like this would have a LOT of impact.
And here of some of the surprising things I've learned along this journey so far:
-Learning to be patient and forgiving of myself when I "mess up" has been the hardest challenge so far.
-Constantly reinforcing to myself that this is a lifestyle change has helped me to process slow or stalled weight loss.
-The piece of advice I seem to give people every week, after reading their blog postings, is "forgive yourself- it's OK to make mistakes! Try to learn from them if you can"! So many of us, me especially, can be so cruel to ourselves when we aren't perfect. And for reference, there's no such thing as perfect.
-Dealing with just the physical weight does NOT address the issues that caused the weight gain in the first place. Just working out, eating better, and drinking water is just a piece of what you need to do. What you also need to focus on is your mental and emotional health.
-I find it really difficult to take pride in what I've accomplished so far when I keep looking ahead to how much more I've got to work on. Focusing on the end goal of 150 pounds lost really belittles the hard work I've already done. I need to find better ways of being proud with what I've done so far.
-Although many of my Spark friends from day one have disappeared, the ones that are still here are treasures to me- we've all fallen down or stumbled, but we've gotten back up and kept going because we know that's the most important element of our success.
