Last "race" of the season done!!

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Where has the time gone? I swear this race season just started and it's already over!
I ran my last "race" of the season this past Sunday at the Charlotte Motor Speeday in North Carolina. It was awesome!! My boys and I went up on spring break and stayed with my sister and niece. We had a blast! We went to the Lazy 5 ranch and had THE best time!! The Lazy 5 ranch is best described as a huge and beautiful drive through zoo where you can pet and feed all of the animals from your car/truck! My favorites were the lamas and zebras because they were so friendly!
Sunday morning was the half marathon. I met up with Wendy (runtrilaugh) and some of the half fanatics/marathon maniacs before the race. Wendy and I satyed together for the course despite how slow I was. I wanted to go for my sub 2:30 but the course was much more challenging than I expected and after a few miles I knew the PR wasn't in the cards so we just enjoyed the race and each others company. We started out on the speedway track, went through pit row, out to the other tracks, around the dirt track, down the drag strips and back. It was a pretty cool course but very hilly!! My family met me at the finish and my oldest son and niece ran us in. That was awesome!! The medal is super cool! The drag stip tree lights up and the race cars move.
After the race I went back to my sisters house, had lunch and packed up for the 8hr drive that turned into the 9hr drive back home thanks to the lovely semi truck with the magos that ran into a bridge and sprayed fruit across the road.

So, now that race season is over I am working on the basics. I have been dropping the boys off at school and heading straight to the Y before work for ST every day this week and I love it! It's my ME time! I am taking this week off of running as I have a knee injury from all those hills in NC and plan to start speed work next week (as long as I am feeling better). My next event is the make it by midnight marathon in July. That race is a "complete only" race because Macon, GA in July is HOT and HILLY!!! It will give me good base training for the Marine Corps Marathon in October though.

Here are a few pics of the weekend! Enjoy and have a beautiful day!

Sounds like a super cool race! Enjoy your "off season"

I am in the NE and we seem to have "racing season" all year round - even in the dead of winter!

Thanks for the race review - love it!

See you at the finish line! and save me a bottle of water!

Sounds like a great race, Sueann. I miss racing, but know I have to do this other stuff before I can adequately race again. Enjoy your "off season" and rest that knee!! I hope it feels better soon.

Love the pic of you and Wendy! Hope your "off" season goes well for you and you heal and rejuvenate. I'm with Lori being confused about race season. Actually, with spending winters in the south and summers north, I'm kinda always where it is race season.

Sueann, looks like a fun mini-break. I would have loved the drive through zoo! Sounds a little like Lion Country Safari. Love the pic with the llama!

I have 2 more races before the "season" ends - a HM at the end of April and a 10k in May. Oh, and a 100 mile relay in May. Good think I like running in the heat!

Also, the Jungle Gym is a strap-based training system, like TRX!

Sueann, I am still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that your racing season is opposite of ours. Crazy! You did awesome work this season and made big BIG strides. Congratulations on finally finding your running Happy Place. You knew it was out there somewhere and by golly you found it.

This latest medal is AW E S O M E! Enjoy playing with it LOL.

Had a great time with you! Wish we could have had more "off track" time, but at least we had those few hours! LOL

    See ya in JULY!!!!!

I hate that I wasn't able to be there with y'all! Sounds like a great time in NC! I'm glad you got to spend some time with your family and had so much fun!

WTG on that "me time" you are taking to work out in the mornings! You make me miss my gym membership. LOL

PS - I see you wore your signature hair-do for the race! Love it!!
