Notes on the Spring 5% Challenge
Tuesday, March 27, 2012
I’ve been doing this challenge for a little more than a week. The idea of the challenge is to lose 5% of one’s body weight in 8 weeks. Weigh-in is Saturday, at the latest, and I weighed in a couple days early, because I was thinking about it. I had lost 2 pounds! I was off to a great start!
I’m doing a Meatless March challenge. For the most part, I am being pretty faithful to this effort. I did have some fish toward the end of the first week or so. But fish isn’t meat…according to some. And some chicken last weekend. But no hot dogs (*shudder*), even though I cooked some for a party we threw at work (I work in a group home). The rest of the menu for the party consisted of salads. (Feel free to read about the salads here: workonourselves.blogspot
I am doing mostly well with the no sugar and Tame Your Sweet Tooth challenges. For me, it’s more of a no refined sugar challenge, and even then, I’ve had small amounts, here and there. It’s hard to avoid in everything, without appearing to be an incredibly picky eater (and maybe I have to be a picky eater in order to eat properly – or at least picky when processed, refined foods are freely available).
I’m getting rather disenchanted with my chosen substitute of tortilla chips. I have long since stopped craving them, and only eat them because I bought 3 big bags of them when they were on sale at the start of this 5% challenge.
I went to see a movie a week ago Sunday. It was lunchtime, and I didn’t have time to get lunch at the food court, so I got a small popcorn with butter and a bottle of water. I ate half the bag of popcorn and felt ill. Good sign, really, as I’ll be less likely to order a small popcorn with butter in the future. Today, I went to see another movie. This time, I got the junior size popcorn (the smallest size available) and a bottle of water. And I did not get the popcorn with butter (I swear it still tasted like butter – perhaps they use butter flavored oil. It was a much more reasonable amount of popcorn.
So…I guess for now, I won’t be voted off the ranch.
