Not so hungry at the Hunger Games

Sunday, March 25, 2012

So a bit of a shamless plug for the Hunger Games movie… My best friend loaned the books to me last year and I devoured the trilogy in 3 days. So obviously we were both super excited the movie came out. I also made my husband read them (which he also read in 3 days) and the 3 of us went to see the movie last night. Since my best friend wanted to get a soda and a popcorn, I went with her to pick up a buttered popcorn for my husband (his request).

I was really proud of myself for NOT eating the popcorn. We had dinner not too long before we got to the movie theater and I asked myself, “Am I really hungry?” The answer was no and I live by the rule of “if you’re hungry, eat and if you’re not, don’t”.

But I was also driven by another silly reason. Whenever I have popcorn or any kind of snack at the movie theater, I get incredibly thirsty. Which means I wind up drinking way too much water or diet soda. Which means I inevitably need to pee like crazy not even halfway through the movie. I have to admit that not wanting to get up in the middle of the movie to use the bathroom was a huge motivating factor.

I know going to the movies becomes a huge temptation fest for many people. I know that my reason was so silly but I think if we asked ourselves what we want more: popcorn? or not having to crawl over people in a dark movie theater, making them mad, then missing parts of a movie you’re really excited to see? That we’re more likely not to be tempted.

P.S. The movie was excellent!

Congrats on passing on the popcorn!! I just got back from the movie and loved it! Did not read the books but plan to now to fill in some of the pieces. I was able to go to a Fork and Screen (AMC) which serves food and drinks with the movie. I was good and got the salmon although I really wanted a cheese burger and fries. Also splurged with a glass of wine. Also tried to drink lots of water but not much because I was afraid of having to crawl over people to go to the restroom too.

Congrats on making your trip successful! emoticon The movie theater is such a major temptation for me that I don't go often. I really want to go see The Hunger Games though as my teenager talked me into reading the books and they were great. I'm hoping to see it next weekend and try the good old chewing gum to avoid temptation routine! emoticon

I think the pee reason is excellent. I sometimes have a problem getting the amount of water I should because I run a lot of errands. I can't drink and then leave!

Although I do have a bottle of water in the car. When I am at stop lights, or on the way home, I will drink that water. Then if nature is calliing, I'll be ok.

P.S. - haven't read the Hunger Games. But if you and your husband can go through them so fast, it's worth a look at the library!
