The Simple Diet Journal #13 -- Still All In -- at the hospital and on a bike

Sunday, March 25, 2012

Well, the last few days have been definitely on-the-go.

Friday -- at the hospital with one of my kids for a day surgery. Everything went well -- thank God!

Found myself having such a different approach for being there this time. Instead of sitting in the waiting room for hours (praying and reading tons of magazines and books -- which I do love to do :-), I put in thousands of steps on my Striiv (still praying :-) and climbed many stairs.

I was concerned about staying on plan -- not for going off plan but for not eating at all, which is my tendency at the hospital. This time, I brought a banana and an energy bar and drank water -- and, shocking news ;-), I felt better! I kept thinking how fortunate I am to be on the Simple Diet and on our Spark Team, as so many helpful and encouraging thoughts of what others have written floated through my mind as I walked miles in the hospital.

Got my son home and all settled in on the couch -- he slept for hours and I decided to try my new iFit cards for my exercise bike. Oh my -- has that changed my bike workout the last two days!

It took me forever to decide to buy one as they have mixed reviews online -- and I can see why, but I am still liking them all the same as they are getting me to pick up the pace and work harder. I'm thinking to see if I can somehow rig up my computer near my bike so that I can also do some exercise videos with youtube training videos -- but that'll be for another day (or month).

Level 1 turned out to be way too easy for me -- so I popped in Level 3 -- and that's on a totally different planet -- full force challenge for the entire 40 minutes. Level 2 -- is "just right" -- not too easy/not too difficult. So, with my current exercise "bug" I have done two bike workouts for two days in a row -- one on Level 3 and then one on Level 2. I've been working on checking my heart rate more and making sure I keep my muscles hydrated (thanks to the advice of my new bike trainer Jillian -- I'll have to post some of the Jillian quotes from the routine sometime soon).

Also walked at the track and at the mall and clocked in . . . drum roll please: 17,086 steps on Friday and 14,000 on Saturday.

We are blessed.

Peace, Health and Living Fully No Matter What . . .

    Great job Brook...

I will be with my daughter tomorrow as she has surgery to remove all of her wisdom teeth. I will try to take a page out of your book and walk while I am waiting instead of sitting an reading or on my laptop.

Hope your son is feeling better.
