Longest run & fastest long run

Sunday, March 25, 2012

spring has sprung! indeed, we got to see lots of dead daffodils as well as lots of new beautiful blooming ones, and trees and bushes in every color and stage of blossom, and a few red tulips.
I ran the first 2 km to the Bastille Opera, where I met
emoticon Minium and we ran 11 km together, along the Promenade plantee and back & then down to the river, across, to the Jardin des Plantes, then along the Seine approaching Notre Dame with the apse view, and then onto the Ile de la Cité, approaching Notre Dame from the front facade, along the side, along the Ile Saint Louis to the Pont Sully, along the voie Pompidou, closed to cars, then up in front of the Hotel de Ville (City Hall), up rue Beaubourg, and home. Nan kept running towards her house ... full of energy, although she hadn't run for a couple of months.
I guess it's true that you run harder with a running buddy than by yourself. my av pace was 7:37 min/km, 12:17 min/mile, for 13 km (8.08 miles). not my all-time best pace ... but definitely my best all-time best long-run pace ... by more than 30 seconds.
a year ago, on the Ile de la cite and ile st louis i was running 30 to 60 seconds and walking 2-3 min. what progress in a year! thanks to SP. emoticon
a great start to the week ... and i really needed those endorphins.

Fantastic and congratulations on your run! I'm just getting caught up here and finally over the jet-lag!!! I was so happy to meet you in person for the walk with Minium and Claire. I hope we can do it again sometime! emoticon

Well done! In fact you've done all this in less than a year. I started on April 11 last year and you began a few days later. And you've gone way beyond what I have ever done. Brilliant!

What a brilliant run it was! I was impressed by your fastness and energy. And I love the sound of your shoes! Thank you so much for this great itinerary. If I'm not too sore, I'm planning on running next week too. Thanks for boosting my self-confidence!

Excellent run. I showed this blog to my wife, who just started running. You are an inspiration to her. Thanks for sharing.

You are amazing! I can't wait to retire and come to Paris to run with you two! Of course I'll have to get my distance and time up quite a bit...I am still working on running an entire 5K as opposed to walk/running. I have gotten faster and am running longer segments...I think I need to get smarter about intervals and do a real sprint and then slow to a jog. Somehow timing myself does not work but using music does work...
    Run on! emoticon
