Power chair life

I am trying so hard to lose. How many out there are in chairs have been able to meet goal? I have been encouraged to lose at least 50 lbs. if I do my kids are going to take me on a cruise to Alaska. I wonderful goal but I am so afraid I will not make it. I am asking for smaller portions and having no desserts but sitting all day does not burn many calories.
Some days it gets very depressing, then I try to get my spirits up by the lovely scrapbook my son and wife put together for me. Wonderfully beautiful pictures and showing the inside of a cruise ship. I would love that. I lost my hubby Dec 10th last year on his 91st birthday. Not an easy thing to take after 64 years of marriage. Well, I guess I have whined enough. Bye for now, Betty (javagal)

    Dear Betty: I can picture you on your special cruise--so, stay encouraged! I'm sorry to hear about you husband of 64 years--I recently loss my fiancé three moths ago--however, its the loving memories that I continue to celebrate.     There are a lot of exercises you can do right from your chair. Spark People has a really good one. Do a search for chair aerobics if you have not seen it. I also like a good one I found on youtube. It's called "Get Fit While You Sit" by Tiffany Roth. You might also be able to modify exercises with stretch bands from a chair. I started with seated exercises because I have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue. I was so tired I felt that I really couldn't handle doing regular exercise routines. Now, I'm walking 30 minutes a day. I do have to stop and stretch my hips in between, but I'm happy to be able to do it. Experiment with modifications. I hope this helps and I hope you got that cruise. If not, keep trying until you do. emoticon

    Hi Betty,

    I am so sorry for the loss of your husband, may your cherished memories of him bring you comfort and peace.

    I am not familiar with the limitations of post polio syndrome, but you mentioned that you can do some stretching, so I was wondering if some simple yoga is possible? Perhaps a physical therapist could guide you through some kind of routine that may help. As for food, sounds like you are on the right track. I would suggest talking with your doctor about a safe caloric intake and what other options are available for you. I have no doubt that you will achieve your 50 lb goal and go on that cruise, take it day by day and you'll get there.

    How are you doing? I live in Minnesota. What part did you live in? How is your journey coming along? Mine is coming along pretty well. It seems slow sometimes but when I think about lossing 50 lbs since Feb then I feel it's coming off pretty fast.
    I'm sorry to hear about your loss. 64 years is a long time indeed.
