Happy St. Patrick's Day and First Day of Spring 5% Challenge

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Greetings to all,
Weighed in this morning for the first week of the Spring 5% Challenge. 140.2 or was it .4, who remembers? Anyway, am happy with that starting weight, had been up quite a few pounds but buckled down in aim to get a 140 starting weight for the challenge and I pretty much got it so that's good. Will be losing the same pounds I lost in the Winter 5% but THIS TIME, I will keep them off because it's no fun having to keep doing it over and over. And I remember how good 133 felt.

Ran a 5K today in Fort Collins. There were over 2500 people in it! Big race for us, lots of costumes/outfits. Had on some shamrock socks and a green wind breaker and felt under dressed compared to the nuts I live among. At the start we had to walk a bit because of the crowding and some poor planning. They expected this size of a crowd to be able to run on a wide sidewalk. After about 50 yards we could run but there were many obstacles and narrow spots and the course, although mercifully flat, was just not the best. I'm probably expecting too much. Anyway, I ran strong, I even passed some other runners (a first!) but mostly people passed me, which I'm okay with, I didn't trip anyone. I finished in 34:40, yay! Best time for me! "PR" in runner lingo. I was 1442nd out of over 2500 entries and 47th out of 129 in the 50-59 women's age group. I love the idea that there were 129 women in their fifties out there today! Woohoo!!! The winner in our age group ran it in a little over 23 minutes. Sheesh. I'm never gonna beat her! Probably got legs as long as spaghetti. Had great music for the run (thanks Lisa!) and felt pretty darn good doing it. Got really tired the last quarter of a mile or so but I was so determined NOT to slow down or to walk and kept it going. Am really happy with how I did and love being a runner. Who knew a year ago when I started the 5K Your Way that I'd end up running and actually liking it?

After the race, our town had the annual parade. Huge turnout this year due to the weather, it's not always so nice here in March. Then, into Old Town Square for a party complete with green beer and live music. Even though Randy's out of town, I managed to enjoy it.

My reward beer. That's the stage behind me with it's wee musicians.

Bagpipers in the parade. Love that sound!

I VOW to NEVER have to lose these pounds again, too. Just silly to keep doing that to ourselves, plus I've noticed it's harder this time (or at least it feels that way).

Congrats on your run time. I did my one and only 5K last spring and thought that was the end of it for me - did it, movin' on... BUT NOW, I'm thinking maybe I'll do it again this year - why not? I want to be one of the 50 year old women doing a 5K - because I CAN! LOL

You know what's Irish and stays out all night?
emoticon I love that joke - DH hates it, he's tired of it, but I love it :)

What a great way to celebrate the day. Haven't done a 5k in a while myself but now that DD is no longer restricted from working out, we're going to get back to doing them. Way to go on your time! That's awesome.

Know you'll get the lbs off by the end of the Challenge. I'm up too from my lowest and the funny thing is that I feel as big as I did when I joined last year which is far from where I am!

Love the pics! It really is amazing only a year ago you started running..and ranked so high. But truthfully, nothing you do amazes me because I think you can do any darned thing you want to do. You just have a determination that can't be stopped by illness, travel, complications, more illness....throw it all at you and you still come out at the top of the pack. I'm totally impressed! emoticon
