Homeland Security

Thursday, March 15, 2012

I am painfully aware that my body doesn't respond well to particular foods;
namely starchy carbs, processed foods, and sugars.
So when someone I have some respect for comes out with a statement like

Dr. Oz: "Here's what I do. I go crazy over chocolate-covered nuts. I just love the combination — the way they taste in my mouth, the texture, the smell. It's fantastic. So I take one handful, never more than that, and then I drink a big glass of water. You'll see. The water will wash out the taste from your mouth. The taste buds have already been satisfied, and the craving will stop. Then just step away from the table."

If you can do as he suggests ... Kudos to You !

In my world...I might be able to do that for the first serving....
but if there is any more left in the house ....
It's calling me from the kitchen and it's whispering to me all night long.
Besides that...
it has an effect on any weight-loss I had previously hoped for that week...
because my fat cells are unionized.....
and they aren't about to move out, if they even think there is any chance of more coming their way.

In my home I need HOMELAND SECURITY with alert levels to automatically turn alarms on when dangerous trigger foods are detected.
A fat detector should start the siren with that piercing noise...
the fridge should automatically lock...
Steel doors should come down from the ceiling and lock in front of the cabinets
and a treadmill with Jillian Michaels at the helm
should rise from the floor directly in front of me.
And there should be an immediate call to the BOMB SQUAD to come and remove any and all HAZARDOUS FOODS found in the vicinity.

that's the only way I could handle EAT WHAT YOU WANT.

I like Dr, Oz but he is loony about some things. Like all of these dudes he probably works 18 hours a day and can eat anything he wants.

I am fortunate enough to be able to eat a bite of anything and be satisfied. I would share that with you if I could. Years back, it wasn't like that. Maybe it comes with age!

I'm with you! I can't handle it when that kind of stuff is in the house either. My remedy was to just get RID of all of it. It's GONE!! That's the ONLY way I can have success or conquer THOSE kinds of food. Look at Dr. Oz - he really has it all together - quite obviously - he doesn't know what it's like to live in the clutches of cravings & food temptations that are SO hard to ignore. He's a very well disciplined man of iron will. Great blog!!! Thanks for sharing. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm lucky in that my trigger foods no longer produce a landslide into a regreatable binge anymore. A little of what you fancy does you good!

    Have a great weekend emoticon

Great way of describing it! I might be completely fine with snacks, but I understand quite well that some people can't start - like an alcoholic with one drink, one bite and they're lost.

I love the visuals of the whole house going on lock-down, though.

Great design. Be sure to patent it before someone else comes along and makes a fortune off of your invention. I'd order a Homeland Security System like that in a heartbeat.

I totally know what you are talking about. That is why it's hard for me with my son. He still likes to have some things especially when he has friends over. Sometimes it just kills me to watch them eat it and I want to snatch it from them a gobble it up myself but I just sadly march over to the veggies or fruits and eat on those. I normally don't have goodies in the house because they are setting me up for failure. If I want something then I will have to go to the store and I will buy one serving of it. It helps that the store I shop at is the store my mom works at and everyone knows I'm on a health plan and ask about it and how I'm doing with it. So they stop me buying it with my own shame. It's hard for me to buy something unhealthy there, so it's the community helping me. If there are brownies in the house, that is my trigger, I'll eat them all.

I am not one who is safe around trigger foods, either. They know my name. UGH

Oh, how true! I can't have goodies anywhere in the house, or else they are gone gone gone down the hatch. (smiling)

Choices can be our friends or our enemy. I do enjoy Dr. Oz but sometimes he makes things simplier than they are.

They keep saying "Use your will power". That's a load of BullS**T.
What we really need is "Won't Power". As in the following..

"I won't have a soda, I'll have water, or I won't have the burger, I'd rather have the chicken."

That is the big part of the problem for most of us here. If we could take a small amount of anything and be happy there, we would not be here to worry about our weight and health!
