Well this is a first for me. I usually only blog every few weeks. But this blog is to explain some of the comments I have made concerning whats going on with me.
1. Hand surgery. I have some pretty bad arthritis It has got so bad in my right hand, the doctor is going to operate to help me regain the full use of it. Eliminating the pain I experience now. Besides I also have carpel tunnel, going to fix that too. And my right shoulder has been injured, rotor cuff torn. He is going to go in and clean the joint out, (hope that's all it takes) and that way I will have my whole right arm and hand fixed like new. If I am happy with the results, will schedule the left hand to be done. It's not quite as bad, but headed that way. The more I resort to using the left, I find it is hurting more.
Here is a picture showing the bone at the end of the thumb and you might see the crooked finger, going to straighten it out, beside cut in the palm to fix the carpel tunnel.
I am already planning what machines I can still workout on while I am incapacitated with the hand in a cast. Will be out of the water for a while. But now that my knees are fixed I can do many other exercises. I will find a way to workout and go forward.
2. Monday I had to see my Endocrinologist. Drove to Portland after my morning aqua aerobics class. Appointment was 1:00. It takes a little over an hour to get there and parked and everything. Figured I would get out at 1:30, if he's on time and I would then need to eat lunch.
During my aerobics class I told one of my friends I would have to take some food with me to eat, so as not stop at some fast food place. She said , "Oh a fast food item won't hurt, you can always get a salad.". But I know if I stop, a salad is not what I am going to want to order. So as a precaution I took a drinkable yogurt and a banana.
The doctor was on time. Got weighed. Doing great , even weight less than at home.
All my vitals were good. BP.91/54, pulse 85. Cholesterol ,the good HDL 184. The bad LTH 76. Those are fantastic reading, I am so happy.
I was having my fat/muscle ratio tested and the results were more good news. Gained 2 lbs of muscle and lost 3 lbs of body aft.
I was so happy, all the weight training is paying off.
My metabolic rate is low, so am going on some meds to try and raise it. That way I won't have to work so hard to lose or maybe maintain. I suffer from having no thyroid, which controls the metabolic rate , the metabolism , temperature and other body functions. Even though I take a synthetic hormone as a replacement, once you have thyroid issues, you have problems with metabolism. I thought at first I was cold a lot of time because I didn't have all the fat to insulate me. But no it's the metabolic rate, not working as well as it could. 35 is considered dangerously low. Mine is only 37. By putting me on these meds, gradually raising the dosage, it will raise the metabolic rate. Once I am at a good level, I will slowly be taken off the meds. And the metabolic rate should stay normal.
As a result of all the good news about how well I am taking care of things, I sat in my car and ate my banana and drank the yogurt. No fast foods for me.
3. Yesterday I hit the gym for 75 minutes of aqua aerobics, 15 minutes of water jogging., I showered and dressed and hit the weight room for 60 minutes of circuit training. That's when I workout on 14 machines. Doing 3 sets of 15 reps each.
Then I have 15 minutes or so of free weights.
After I finished I stopped at Walmart to get my new meds and as I was walking to the car, I had an urge to head to Value Village, one of my favorite thrift stores.
Wednesday is 40% off seniors day.
I drove over in the miserable weather and went in headed to the swim suits, nothing.
Headed to the shoes. saw a couple, but either too small, didn't fit right or the style turned me off. But then I stumbled across a special section of just summer sandals. I didn't know they had separated winter from summer. Found some lovely brand new Bandalino yellow wedge thong, just my size 9M. had to have them.
I then went on to find nice black waist length jacket, from Casual Corners, a black/white Calvin Klein sweater top and chocolate/cream top with ruffled cap sleeves, it's fitted in the bust. Will look so good with cream slacks or blown this summer.
I went on to get a pair of stretch exercise pants. a couple cotton PJ bottoms.
I like to sleep in cotton t-shirts with capri type bottoms. Very comfortable.
I was keeping a running total in my head because I didn't want to go over $30.00.
At first it was only going to be $20.00, then I found the jacket I had been looking for and had to get it.
I got to the checkout. Clerk asked if I had any coupons. No, but I showed her my preferred card and she scanned just to show I had shopped.
She totaled it all up and told me I owed $47.93. I was surprise, how had I miss counted , why was I off by so much. I looked sort of puzzled and asked , "Isn't there a 40% off today."? She said, "Yes , but that's only for seniors." I laughed and said, " Well .doesn't 70 years old count as senior.? Her mouth literally fell open and she stuttered, "You are a senior? I would never have know it and you didn't say anything". I told, her I didn't think I need too. I just thought it was obvious .
She said ."No, it's not. You look amazing. I thanked her, but secretly think she needs glasses. But I did feel pretty darn good as I walked to my car. I'm sure there was a spring in my step that wasn't there earlier. I also sure that clerk has no idea how she made my day.
Oh, by the way my total for all I got with the 40% off was $27.60.. Not bad for a hours worth of shopping.
4. Mary, this is for you. I went to the Saturday market, bought a piece of pottery, here's the picture.
It's a vase with indents , strange, but I like unusual items. The picture of the horse is one of my favorites. Got nicked in a move, have to touch it up one of these days.
So this catches up on whats going on. .. I will keep you updated on any new developments.
Oh, about my food blog, I barely touched on the foods that I have on hand and that i really always keep around. That will have to be my favorite 50 items or something like that. Later I will work on it.
You all take care, stay positive,
