HUGE money saving tip - just have to pass it on!

Thursday, March 15, 2012

This has NOTHING to do with fitness, but I was so shocked, I just had to share it.

We had an appliance repairman out today. Had been having problems build up with a few things and got them all taken care of at one time. But the big take-away this morning was with our clothes washing machine. It had, off and on, not wrung the clothes out properly. Our repairman said it was due to using too much detergent! For front load machines, you're only supposed to use 1 TABLESPOON of liquid detergent (or 1/3 c. powder)! He even suggested using the little measuring caps that come with medicine or cough syrup to measure the liquid one out. Too much detergent will RUIN the bearings and the drain pump in the machine, not to mention just plain make it act weird (like mine was)! So I asked him about the lines inside the cups that you're supposed to use to measure this stuff out. He said, flat out, that the company is just trying to get you to use the detergent up so you'll buy more. ONE TABLESPOON folks!

And, you know what, it might not be directly related to fitness, but if you save enough money by using only one tablespoon or not having to buy a new washing machine prematurely, you might be able to get yourself some new emoticon or a new set of emoticon! LOL

Your post made me smile! it is so true that unfortunately most companies care more about their bottom dollar than ours! Thanks for the tip! I also love the fact that when we work on saving a little dough... we can then use it on things like exercise equipment or videos that we've wanted but couldn't afford! Living smarter! I love it! Have a great day! Blessings! - Kelly

Thanks for the info. I wonder if he was referring to the high efficiency detergent or regular detergent? Or are they all high efficiency now. I think many times I use too much detergent because I don't see any suds in the washing machine. But someone told me that with the high efficiency detergents, you are not supposed to see suda but that it's still working. I'll have to try it and see. Again, thanks for the info!

Wow! I know our dishwasher repairman once told me the same thing about not using too much dishwashing fact he said the powdered was MUCH better for the machine than liquid.

    Thanks for sharing this!
