Waste of 900 calories

Last night I went to a restaurant with my fiancee. He had been given a gift card to use. I hate those gift cards. They are just a lazy way to give a person a gift, and half the time, the person does not use them. I have read that 50% of them go unused, so that is why they are so prominently displayed in the stores!!! They are a big money maker.

At any rate, it is a restaurant that I know is a calorie pit. There is almost nothing there that is healthy, and it does not even taste that good. Yet, the place is always packed.

I had veal parmigiana and ravioli, you could see the fat oozing out of the sauce. Globules of it. I am so mad I did not order a salad, but I always like to go along with whatever my eating companion is having. I do this with friends, relatives, everyone. He was having a dinner, so I thought I should have a dinner. The soup was a tasteless minestrone that gave me gas.

Am I going to learn something from this??? He still has $150 left on this gift card!!! I cannot believe the stupidity of putting $200 on a cheapo restaurant gift card, but his daughter likes to act like she is rich. She is the one who gave it to him. In all fairness to her, she knows it is a place he frequents with his buddies. It is that type of place. I will leave it to him and his buddies in the future.

That was funny. Hope it wasn't Olive Garden.

I'm sorry........and I understand. It is so hard to make a salad choice when everyone else is eating a normal meal. That's how I have gained 23 lbs since Oct. Not choosing correctly. Hang in there - and maybe just let DH take his buddies there and you skip it altogether? emoticon vista

I can relate. I try to suggest places to dine that I know have healthy choices. My husband has been great about trying new things to help me out.

I have the same problem, we go out every second Sunday for an adult evening out...either dinner or a movie and occasionally both.

Horrible for me because the restaurant me fiance likes doesn't have any nutritional information there or online....even salads can be crammed full of fat and calories. And when one goes out especially when spending money, a salad doesn't normally come to mind. I tried to make a good eating choice on Sunday when at the restaurant just to get my penne and realize it was the equivalent of a Fettuccine Alfredo..probably 1200 cals which I ate most of because I didn't eat allot that day. It was frustrating!!! I have decided even though this is my fiance's favorite place we are going to have to eat somewhere else from now on that has nutritional information so I know what I am eating!

If I were you, I would regift that card :)

Sometimes it's hard to go out somewhere when you know what's on the menu. But I will order salad when I'm out with friends because it's totally upto me to be in control of what goes in my mouth. To make it more filing I add chicken or shrimp. (I also usually put the dressing on the side and only eat half as the portions are out of control).
Good for you letting your hubby use the rest for himself...maybe he could treat his buddies to drinks and apps. that way the card would be used up.
