Reward! 1/2 way walk jog 5K

Today I finished week 3, day 2 of the 5 weeks. Another 2 miles in 30 minutes. Is that really me? Is that really possible? I chickened out on running up a modest "hill" and double backed thru the flatter sections of the neighborhood. I tried to keep my pace steady so I wasn't working so hard to breathe at the end of 2 minutes. Helpful comments from my daughter: look, the dog's not even running. I don't know if I should walk or run." I tried to imagine "leaning forward from the ankles" and "Midfoot strike". See, I've been reading about running. I also readjusted my finish direction so I'd have plenty of cool down before I got back to the house. I stretched out afterward, reveling in the time glut of spring break: no appts today, no hurry for anything :) Nice!

Exer-cuses were piling up before and early on: my right eyelid is swollen, pretty sure an infected gland in the upper lid. I kept gently squishing what I think was the abcess last night and early this morning. It's smaller now. Hey, I could see, it wasn't excruciatingly painful, I wasn't letting that stop me. Aches and pains: tight ankles, twinges on those cartilages the first run time. I didn't let that stop me, either. Slow and steady, I promised myself. Bargaining each time interval: you can do 30 more seconds!

The Reward: Clinique bonus giveaway at Dillards. I really needed foundation. Since high school, Clinique has been my favorite makeup. I'd save up babysitting money, then grocery money to buy a bottle of foundation every year or so for "special" times. Much more often, I go for the $5 bottle at Walmart. Splurging on the luxurious, easy to use, always looks good makeup was my reward, part of the "taking care of me" payoff.

I can also reward myself that I have logged in every day since New Years. I've gotten 8 classes of water, 3 fruits and veggies, huddled every day, tracked food and exercise as well. Habits, consistency, routines that keep me moving closer to healthy. The fam is headed to the beach, just about my favorite environment on the planet, in a few days. As long as my cell phone works, I've made the goal to at least log in and save the tracking for when we get back. emoticon

    You say it so casually--- habits, consistency, routines: water, fruit, vegetables, tracking---girl this is huge. Do you have any idea how long it took me to get through my stubbornness and make ANY progress in those areas? This is impressive, truly, the healthy lifestyle you have built, and I hope you are giving yourself major credit. Not to mention the great job you are doing with your kids and holding down the fort alone.
