Day 1 of 5K Your Way Walk/Jog Training Program
Sunday, March 11, 2012
So I finally did it. I finally did what I've been saying I want to do for the last several weeks. No more excuses. I finally just got off my butt and did it. I started the 5K training program.
It was a high of 60 (although it felt warmer than that) and sunny today. Spring really does feel like it's right around the corner. So yeah, the weather being beautiful and all certainly was an incentive for me to just go out there and train. I went to the local park that's by the Bronx River. River is a bit of misnomer, it's more like a stream in most places but it's still a beautiful place to walk/jog.
I mapped it with SP's map your route function and I was able to do 3.2K in 25 min. I walked 4 min and then jogged for 1 so my average time was 8 min/mile. I don't know anything about running but that seems pretty good to me. And I torched something like 300 calories while I was at it. Not a bad way to get my cardio in, not a bad way at all.
Note to self: Next time, wear jogging pants that have pockets. My phone (which I downloaded an app to help me time my walk/jog intervals) and my iPod and even my pedometer kept falling out of my hoodie pockets. I've got to figure out some way to carry them in a comfortable way when I jog. I hate the backpacks. Maybe a fanny pack? Yeah, I'll be the definition of cool then...
