Probably a lot of you are clicking on this blog because of its alluring subject. "What did she do?" you're thinking. Was it lose 100 lbs? Reach her goal? Hike Mt. Vesuvius (sp?)?
No! It was going to my in laws for the weekend and ending up with a calorie deficit! After 4 days, I have a deficit of around 600 calories!
How did I do it? Well, one day, I did in fact go over my calorie range by 400. But the thing I keep in mind, and that we all can keep in mind when we are about to freak out, is the BMR - or basal metabolic rate. Let me explain.
The calorie range spark people set for me is 1200-1550. Those numbers were established because my BMR is 1740, and in order for me to lose weight, I have to eat a couple hundred calories under my BMR. Now, this is the important thing to remember. If I exceed my SP calorie range, that does not necessarily mean I will GAIN weight, it just means I will not LOSE weight. As long as I eat around my BMR, which in my case is 1740, I will not gain any weight. Even if I eat 2000 calories, I only have a calorie gain of 250, which is relatively insignificant in the long run.
Now, back to our example: I stayed in my SP calorie range of 1200-1550, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. Saturday I ate around 1950 calories. When I add up all of those numbers, I still have an overall calorie deficit of 600 calories.
